Description
Lacus Welt is a vampire character who appears in the Seraph of the End anime, notably during the Battle in Nagoya arc. Originally a human who once had siblings, Lacus was turned into a vampire and operates within Japan as a city guard. He frequently works alongside another vampire, René Simm, and also collaborates with Mikaela Hyakuya on various missions.
In terms of personality, Lacus presents a cheerful and easygoing demeanor, but this masks a deeply cruel nature. He views humans as mere livestock and openly laughs at the idea that vampires came to protect humanity, stating that one does not protect livestock but rather owns it. He has little to no restraint when it comes to feeding on humans and is known to drink blood until his victim is dead, showing zero hesitation in killing.
Lacus’s main motivation is the pursuit of his own desires. He follows his instincts and enjoys the act of killing and feeding, showing no remorse for the lives he takes. His role in the story is that of an antagonist serving in the vampire Urban Defense Force. He is directly responsible for the death of Yoichi Saotome’s sister, Tomoe Saotome, whom he killed in 2012 by drinking too much of her blood before discarding her body. This act establishes a personal conflict with Yoichi.
Key relationships include his partnership with René Simm, with whom he is almost always seen, and his professional association with Mikaela Hyakuya. He is also among the vampires who warn their superiors about the human invasion during the Nagoya battle, suggesting a degree of loyalty to the vampire hierarchy.
Throughout the anime, Lacus shows little character development, remaining a straightforward and brutal antagonist. In terms of notable abilities, he possesses high combat capability, being able to fight on par with strong members of the Moon Demon Company, despite not being a vampire noble. His fighting style relies on his physical strength and vampire speed. Overall, Lacus Welt serves as a minor but impactful adversary whose actions drive part of the conflict involving the human characters.
