Description
Hyoma Yoshimura, often called Mr. Jaguar, is a crucial member of the Superhuman Bureau in Concrete Revolutio. He is a man in his thirties who is usually a man of few words, presenting a calm and reserved demeanor. His origins are highly unusual, as he is not from the 1960s setting of the main story but is a time traveler from the 25th century. His mission upon arriving in the past was to serve as an agent of the Time Patrol, an organization dedicated to preventing any alterations to the flow of history.

Yoshimura possesses a range of abilities tied to his future origins and his unique nature. He is a genius physicist and is responsible for creating Equus, Jiro Hitoyoshi's transforming car-like mech. His powers primarily involve temporal manipulation, including the ability to move at superhuman speed and even stop time entirely using his pocket watch. He also demonstrates the power of animorphism, allowing him to transform parts or all of his body into a jaguar, which is the source of his nickname. Some dialogue in the series suggests that in his own timeline, where traditional superhumans do not exist, he himself is the equivalent of one, hinting at a possible origin as an uplifted animal.

Yoshimura’s motivations and loyalties are complex and shift over the course of the narrative, leading to the existence of multiple versions of him from different points in his personal timeline. One version remains a member of the Time Patrol, dedicated to preserving history. Another version, disillusioned with the Patrol’s mission, decides that actively changing the past for the better is a more just path. This version forms a terrorist organization called Infernal Queen, also known as IQ or the Advocates of Free History, aimed at destroying what he perceives as evil. The third version, the one who serves as the Superhuman Bureau’s founder and support member, is a result of his actions to rectify the paradoxes caused by his other selves.

His role within the story is primarily as a supporting but pivotal figure, acting as an enabler and technical expert for the Bureau’s operations. He is a non-action hero in the field despite his potent abilities, preferring to work in a support capacity. His key relationships involve the other Bureau members, particularly Jiro Hitoyoshi, for whom he built Equus, and he represents a more cynical, world-weary perspective that contrasts with Jiro’s youthful idealism. He respects Jiro’s purity of belief while simultaneously hating that he can no longer share it himself, viewing Jiro’s idealism as something precious that ultimately must be protected and, inevitably, crushed by the realities of the adult world.

The character’s development culminates in a significant temporal confrontation. The version of him from the Bureau confronts and kills his future self, the leader of IQ. Believing that this act would erase his own existence due to a paradox, he is surprised to survive. Instead of a heroic end, he is forced to continue living with the consequences of his actions, embodying the series’ theme that one cannot simply erase the past but must move forward day by day. This event anchors his existence in a stable time loop, as the research conducted on his time-manipulating watch ultimately leads to the invention of time travel and the founding of the Time Patrol, ensuring he must always exist despite having seemingly killed his own past. His notable abilities, therefore, extend beyond raw power to encompass a unique and paradoxical existence that is central to the show’s exploration of time, consequence, and justice.
