Description
Midori Yamabuki, later known as Midori Norimaki after marriage, is a main supporting character in the Dr. Slump series. She first appears as Arale Norimaki's beautiful teacher at Penguin Village Middle School and is immediately the center of Senbei Norimaki's affections. Her background is that of a dedicated and caring educator who genuinely loves all of her students. She has a friendly and kindhearted personality, always gentle and sweet to those around her, but she is capable of displaying real anger when provoked. As the series progresses, particularly after her marriage, she also reveals a ditzier and more scatterbrained side to her character.
Her primary motivation is her role as a teacher and later as a wife and mother. She remains unaware of Senbei's many perverted schemes to win her over, and their relationship develops through a series of comedic misunderstandings, including a memorable first date in space and a proposal that she overhears while in the bathroom. She accepts Senbei's proposal immediately, and the two marry. After marriage, she gives birth to a son named Turbo Norimaki. Her role in the story is that of a grounding, warm presence in Senbei's chaotic life and a source of kindness in Penguin Village. She also appears in the Dragon Ball series, where she briefly interacts with Son Goku, making him cookies while he visits Senbei to have his Dragon Radar repaired.
Key relationships include her professional connection to Arale as her teacher, her romantic and later marital relationship with Senbei, and her role as mother to Turbo. She also has a close friendship with Akane Kimidori, who once pranks Senbei by dressing up as Midori. Throughout the series, Midori develops from a somewhat distant object of affection into a fully integrated family member. She does not possess any superhuman abilities; her notable traits are her patience, kindness, and dedication to her students and family. Her character serves as a normal, human anchor within the absurd and whimsical world of Penguin Village.
