Description
Akane Kimidori is a central supporting character in the Dr. Slump series, best known as the best friend and frequent partner-in-crime of the android girl Arale Norimaki. She is a student at the school in Penguin Village and lives at the Coffee Pot, a café run by her older sister, Aoi Kimidori. Her family name refers to the color yellow-green. Akane is a quintessential tomboy and a rebellious spirit, often breaking rules for her own amusement and pulling elaborate pranks on many residents, especially the eccentric inventor Senbei Norimaki. She has a sarcastic and blunt manner of speaking, habitually uses the masculine first-person pronoun "ore" in the original Japanese, and has a quick temper. Despite her rough edges and reputation as a delinquent, she remains a loyal and caring friend, particularly to Arale. While she typically receives poor grades, she is consistently portrayed as cunning and sensible, often devising clever plans. An early, recurring gag involved her carrying liquor in her canteen to drink at school, a habit that became less prominent over time. Akane first appeared as Arale's desk partner in Miss Yamabuki's seventh-grade class. Initially annoyed by Arale, she gained respect after witnessing her superhuman strength during a confrontation with her cousins, Taro and Peasuke Soramame, and the group became friends. She becomes a constant presence in Arale's life, acting as her manager and participating in numerous escapades. Akane later becomes the girlfriend and eventually the wife of Tsukutsun Tsun. A future camera shows her at age 23 and again at age 73, indicating a long life. In the crossover with the Dragon Ball series, an older Akane appears as a high school student during the Red Ribbon Army Saga, where she interacts with the young Goku and is famously rejected by the Flying Nimbus cloud due to her impure heart. She also makes a brief cameo appearance in Dragon Ball Super, retaining her youthful appearance. Akane has no superpowers but lists the "Cobra Twist" wrestling move as her special talent. In the 1997 anime remake of Dr. Slump, her character design was altered from blonde hair and blue eyes to brown hair and yellow eyes.
