OVA
Description
Noike Kamiki Jurai, originally Noike Sakazua, is the adopted daughter of Seto Kamiki Jurai and a member of the Jurai royal family. Her early life was marked by hardship: her wealthy father abandoned her mother upon learning of the pregnancy, and her mother later placed her in an orphanage after a new partner refused to raise another man's child. Years afterward, Noike encountered her biological mother during a Galaxy Police investigation and learned that the abandonment was intended to give her a better life, a revelation she accepted with resignation.

Adopted by Seto, Noike was bonded to a third-generation Juraian royal tree, Kyoko, which was secretly modified to possess power equivalent to a second-generation tree. Kyoko’s design included a remote interface unit that allowed direct interaction, but the tree craved attention due to its isolation. Noike’s Juraian heritage enabled her to attend the Galaxy Police Academy, where she graduated as a first-class detective and became the partner of Mihoshi Kuramitsu. Her experience managing children in the orphanage helped her handle Mihoshi’s flightiness with stern efficiency. She was later considered for the role of second-in-command on the Kuramitsu family’s battle station, the Choubimaru, but the appointment was vetoed.

Noike’s primary role in the story begins when Seto assigns her a mission: travel to Earth under the guise of Tenchi Masaki’s arranged fiancée and observe him. The real objective was to monitor the five powerful women who had gravitated toward Tenchi, the only individual capable of generating Lighthawk Wings. Accompanied by Tenchi’s older sister Tennyo and his grandmother Airi, Noike eventually sneaked away and encountered Tenchi on his family’s farm. She soon settled into the Masaki household, contributing to chores, cooking, and even cutting her long hair in favor of a shorter style she wore in her youth, keeping a wig for formal occasions. She skillfully persuaded even Ryoko and Ayeka to help with housework, and when Tenchi collapsed from heatstroke and stress, she enforced his rest period.

Noike’s personality is practical, capable, and organized. She is a trained nurse, a competent cook, and an adept household manager. She can be manipulative when necessary, using cajoling and psychological insight to influence others, yet she also shows genuine empathy, particularly toward Tenchi’s feelings about his mother. Her interactions with Mihoshi are notably cold and impatient, contrasting with her more caring side. Her motivations are complex: she is loyal to Seto but also develops a sincere attachment to Tenchi and the household.

Throughout the third OVA series, Noike is plagued by strange visions of Tenchi with a young girl, which cause her to faint. This stems from a hidden secret: the female astral half of the hermaphroditic being Kagato, originally created by Washu Hakubi, was rejected by Kagato and later found by Dr. Clay. Clay sealed this female form within Noike’s body, and the entity’s desire to see Tenchi was exploited by the antagonist Z, who used Noike’s eyes to spy on the Masakis. After the truth is discovered, Washu removes Clay’s seal, and the girl Kagato fully assimilates with Noike. This event resolves the split-personality tension and Noike continues as a member of the Masaki household in subsequent OVA series.

Noike’s notable abilities include her Juraian royal tree bond with Kyoko, which grants her a powerful ship that she can command. She is also a skilled Galaxy Police detective, a trained nurse, and possesses strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Her key relationships include her adoptive mother Seto, her former partner Mihoshi, and Tenchi, for whom she develops genuine romantic feelings, though the engagement was originally a ruse. She maintains a pragmatic bond with the other residents of the Masaki home. Over the course of the series, Noike evolves from an outsider on a secret mission into an integrated and vital member of the group, her hidden past resolved and her personal growth solidified.
