Description
Amelia Wil Tesla Saillune is the second princess of the kingdom of Saillune, a realm renowned for its white magic, and the daughter of Crown Prince Philionel, placing her third in line for the throne. By the events of Slayers Evolution-R, she is approximately seventeen years old and stands 155 centimeters tall, notably shorter than many of her companions though with a more developed figure than Lina Inverse. Her childhood was marked by tragedy when her mother was murdered by an assassin, an event that also led to the disappearance of her older sister, Gracia, who would later be known as Naga the Serpent. Amelia’s personality is defined by a zealous and unwavering devotion to justice, a trait she inherited and actively emulates from her father. She is bubbly, energetic, and perpetually eager to help those in need, often making dramatic proclamations about truth and righteousness from the highest vantage point she can find, only to comically lose her balance and fall. Her worldview initially operates in stark contrasts of good and evil, leading her to naively judge others based on appearances or fairy-tale notions of heroes and villains, but beneath this idealism lies a coping mechanism for a traumatic past. Despite her noble status, she rarely uses her position for advantage, preferring to solve problems through action and a strong belief in righteousness. She travels with Lina Inverse’s party not only to fight evil but also to learn from Lina, whom she initially idolizes as a powerful sorceress and hero despite Lina’s chaotic and selfish tendencies. Amelia shares a close, sister-like friendship with Lina, scolding her for unjust behavior while caring deeply for her. Her relationship with the chimera swordsman Zelgadiss Graywords is particularly significant: after a rocky start where she judged him by his freakish appearance, she came to recognize his good heart, and the anime strongly hints at romantic feelings from her toward him, with him grounding her idealism and she reminding him of hope. She views Gourry Gabriev as a kind and reliable older brother figure, and she maintains a polite, tolerant relationship with the Mazoku Xelloss, often attempting to reform him with speeches about the wonders of life. Throughout the series, Amelia evolves from a blindly idealistic and judgmental girl into a more mature and discerning young woman, learning that the world is not simply divided into good and evil and becoming less quick to judge others. Her experiences with betrayal within her own family—including assassination plots by her uncles and cousin—have given her inner strength and resilience. As a fighter, she is highly proficient in white magic, specializing in defensive, recovery, and exorcism spells such as Recovery, Rafas Seed, and Megido Flare. She is also expert in shamanistic magic, particularly astral spells, and can wield some black magic like Blast Ash and Dynast Bras. Preferring close-quarters combat, she developed a unique spell called Visfarank, which channels magical energy into spheres on her wrists, fists, or feet to create powerful, boxing-glove-like attacks capable of striking even Mazoku demons. She possesses considerable physical strength and durability, able to withstand powerful explosions and crush solid stone with her bare hands, though she often acknowledges that her human holy magic is not as potent as the sacred magic used by beings like the golden dragon Filia. In the stories of Slayers Revolution, Slayers Premium, and Slayers Evolution-R, she serves as a core member of the main group, providing moral support, healing magic, and an optimistic perspective while also contributing directly to combat.
