Description
Major Fatman, also known simply as Fattman, is a character from the anime film Spriggan. His codename is a reference to the Fat Man atomic bomb, reflecting his immense destructive power and his role as a weapon of mass destruction for a rogue military faction. His real name is never revealed.

A massive, hulking cyborg, Fatman serves as a primary enforcer for the U.S. Machine Corps, a renegade division of the Pentagon that seeks global domination. Prior to becoming a cyborg, he was part of a black ops program called Project COSMOS, which conditioned children to become perfect soldiers. In this role, he was a trainer and handler for a young boy named Yu Ominae. However, when Yu discovered the brutal nature of the experiments performed on him, he turned against the program's staff. During this violent uprising, Fatman was nearly killed, surviving only because of extensive cybernetic reconstruction.

This past event is the driving force behind Fatman's cold and vengeful personality. He is characterized by a deep-seated grudge against his former protégé, viewing Yu as a traitor. Fatman is a brutal, relentless, and often taunting antagonist. His dialogue frequently reflects his desire for revenge and his ironic enjoyment of the situation, as he once told Yu, "It's ironic. I'm killing you yet you gave me the body to do it with". He is a heavy cigar smoker, a habit that adds to his imposing and grizzled demeanor.

In the story, Fatman is sent by the Machine Corps to secure a powerful ancient artifact known as Noah's Ark, which has been unearthed in Turkey. However, his official mission is secondary to his personal quest for vengeance. To lure Yu to the excavation site on Mount Ararat, Fatman kidnaps and murders several of Yu's friends and colleagues, leaving behind the message "NOAH WILL BE YOUR GRAVE". He serves as a major physical threat to the protagonist, acting as the muscle of the villainous trio that includes the psychic Colonel MacDougall and the razor-wire wielding Little Boy.

The most significant relationship in Fatman's story is his enmity with Yu Ominae. Their dynamic is rooted in a deep personal betrayal—Yu's actions as a child created the monster Fatman has become, and Fatman is determined to be the one to finally destroy him. His relationship with the Machine Corps is purely instrumental; they rebuilt him as a weapon, and he uses their resources to pursue his own vendetta.

As a character, Fatman exhibits little to no emotional development or redemption arc. He remains a single-minded agent of vengeance from his first appearance to his final battle. His entire trajectory is defined by his past with Yu and his goal of settling the score, which ultimately leads to his downfall. The film presents him as a tragic irony: a man who was rebuilt into a nearly unstoppable war machine but whose fixation on revenge blinds him to his own limitations.

Fatman is defined by his notable abilities, all stemming from his cybernetic enhancements. His body is reinforced with Orihalcon armor plating, making him incredibly durable and resistant to conventional weaponry, effectively turning him into a walking tank. His right arm is a mechanical prosthesis that he can replace with a high-caliber Vulcan gatling gun, giving him devastating firepower. Combined with his immense physical strength and size, Fatman is a formidable force. As his nickname suggests, he is described as a "tank-like" warrior. Despite these advantages, his reliance on brute force and his obsessive hatred become weaknesses. In the final confrontation, Yu uses Fatman's overconfidence against him, slicing off his mechanical hand with an Orihalcon knife and then destroying him with the powerful cannon of an armored vehicle.
