TV Special
Description
Mira Julietta Vespaland is a fictional character from the crossover television special Lupin III vs. Detective Conan. She is the princess of the European absolute monarchy of Vespania, a small kingdom located in Turkey. At the time of the story, she is nineteen years old. Mira bears a striking physical resemblance to Ran Mouri, a detail that becomes central to the plot.

The character's background is shaped by tragedy. During a royal hunting expedition, Queen Sakura, Mira's mother, is killed. All evidence initially suggests that Mira's older brother, Prince Gill, accidentally shot the queen and then, overcome by guilt, committed suicide. As the only remaining direct heir, Mira inherits the throne against her wishes. She feels she is not the rightful ruler and rejects the crown, but she is pressured by the kingdom's political situation. A growing popular movement questions her fitness to govern, and her coronation is threatened by unrest.

Personality wise, Mira is initially portrayed as tough, headstrong, and somewhat selfish. She is also deeply cynical and fatalistic, a response to the traumatic loss of her mother and brother and the weight of her unwanted royal duties. She hides her vulnerability behind a defiant exterior and does not want others to see her fragile side. Despite this, she yearns for freedom and a normal life away from palace constraints. Her motivations are driven by a desire to escape her circumstances and to find a sense of purpose on her own terms.

In the story, Mira's role is that of a pivotal figure whose personal journey intertwines with the plots of both Lupin III and Conan Edogawa. After an assassination attempt on her life during a diplomatic event in Japan, she seizes the chaos to slip away. She encounters Ran Mouri and, noticing their uncanny resemblance, impulsively switches places with her. Ran pretends to be Mira to avoid a diplomatic incident, while Mira herself is taken under the wing of Fujiko Mine, who has been hired by Count Keith Dan Stinger to give the princess a taste of ordinary teenage life. Fujiko's companionship helps Mira shed some of her cynicism and bitterness. Later, Mira returns to Vespania after visiting the site where her mother and brother died, an experience that prompts her to accept her responsibilities. She decides to assume her duties as future queen and is ultimately crowned after the true culprit behind the murders is exposed.

Key relationships include those with Count Keith, the chief of the commons who acts as her protective guardian; Duke Gerard Musca Vespaland, her uncle who is revealed to be the true murderer; Fujiko Mine, who acts as a temporary mentor and friend; and Daisuke Jigen, a former army trainer assigned as her personal guard. She also interacts with Conan Edogawa and Lupin III, though mostly indirectly, as Conan works to solve the conspiracy and Lupin pursues the royal crown.

Mira's development is central to the special. She transforms from a cynical, reluctant princess who wants to flee from her birthright into a confident and resolute queen who chooses to lead her people. Her journey is one of emotional healing and acceptance of responsibility, aided by the brief taste of freedom and normalcy she experiences during her escape.

In terms of notable abilities, Mira possesses no exceptional physical or intellectual skills beyond those typical of her royal upbringing. She is, however, resourceful and adaptable, able to quickly take advantage of opportunities such as the switch with Ran. Her greatest strength lies in her capacity for personal growth and her eventual willingness to embrace her role as sovereign.
