Description
Yūna Yūki is the central protagonist throughout the *Yuki Yuna is a Hero* franchise and its spin-off *Churutto!*. She is a second-year student at Sanshu Middle School and a founding member of the Hero Club. Residing next door to Mimori Togo, a placement arranged by the Taisha organization due to Yūna's high aptitude scores for heroism, she learns martial arts from her father and flower pressing from her mother, shaping her physical abilities and love for nature.
Physically, Yūna possesses fair skin, amaranth-red eyes, and shoulder-length hair with red and pink hues. A flower petal-shaped hair clip adorns her civilian look, enlarging during transformation. Her hero form features white and pink armored breastplate, greaves, and gauntlets, marked by a cherry blossom motif on her right fist indicating her Mankai gauge. The Mankai state transforms her attire into a flowing pink kimono-like dress with detached sleeves and oversized mechanical fists.
Energetically optimistic and deeply loyal, Yūna consistently prioritizes others' safety above her own. She actively lightens tense situations with exaggerated cheerfulness, though privately harbors fears of isolation and mortality. This duality fuels her extreme determination to protect friends during conflicts. Her ability to perceive others' emotions allows her to mediate group dynamics, especially when integrating new members like Karin Miyoshi into the Hero Club.
Her combat focuses on close-range techniques using armored gauntlets. Initial transformations grant her the fairy Gyuuki, enabling energy-channeled "Hero Punches." Later, the fairy Kasha facilitates fiery "Hero Kicks." Activating Mankai provides devastating power at severe physical cost: the first use deprives her of taste, while subsequent deployments progressively impair mobility, culminating in temporary paralysis and coma after confronting the final Vertex. Months later, communal support restores her sensory and motor functions.
In *Churutto!*, Yūna appears among 27 summoned heroes from across eras living within the Shinju's protected world. Her role shifts to lighthearted collaboration as the expanded Hero Club pursues non-combat objectives like developing "Hero Club Udon," emphasizing her persistent optimism and camaraderie in peaceful contexts. Her interactions maintain leadership qualities, uniting diverse heroes through shared activities.
Key narrative arcs involve discovering the Taisha's manipulations regarding Mankai's irreversible bodily toll, reconciling Mimori Togo's dual identity as Washio Sumi, and resisting celestial entities threatening the Shinju. These challenges test her idealism but reinforce her commitment to preserving ordinary life, culminating in a climactic sacrifice that temporarily severs her consciousness from her body. Post-recovery, she navigates memory alterations affecting her recollection of Mimori, demonstrating resilience in rebuilding obscured bonds.
