Description
Lyle Dylandy, who takes the codename Lockon Stratos, is the twin brother of Neil Dylandy, the original Lockon Stratos. Born in Ireland in AD 2283, Lyle was the younger twin and had a younger sister named Amy. When he was thirteen, his family was killed in a terrorist attack by the KPSA, but Lyle was not present at the time. Unlike his brother Neil, who was driven by hatred and a desire for revenge, Lyle felt a sense of emptiness and struggled to process the loss. Growing up, he was often compared unfavorably to his older twin, which led to an inferiority complex. He eventually moved away to a boarding school during junior high school, distancing himself from his family. Before joining Celestial Being, Lyle was a member of Katharon, an anti-A-LAWS resistance group, where he worked as an intelligence gatherer under the code name Gene-1. After Neil's death in battle, Setsuna F. Seiei recruited Lyle to become a Gundam Meister and take up the codename Lockon Stratos. Lyle accepted the role to honor his brother's memory, but he initially struggled to live up to the legacy. He piloted the GN-006 Cherudim Gundam, the successor to his brother's Dynames, and later the GN-010 Gundam Zabanya in the film. Personality-wise, Lyle is more reserved and less openly cheerful than Neil. He carries the weight of replacing his brother and initially finds it difficult to step out of Neil's shadow. Over time, he grows into the role and proves himself as a capable and adaptable pilot. His combat sense is exceptionally high, and he inherits his brother's long-range sniping skills, though he favors a style of using multiple guns and ranged support rather than pure sniping. He is also known for his quick-draw ability, which even surpasses that of the skilled enemy pilot Ali al-Saachez. A key relationship in Lyle's life is with Anew Returner, a crew member of the Ptolemaios with whom he falls in love. However, Anew is revealed to be an Innovade, a spy for Ribbons Almark. When her true nature is exposed, she attempts to kill Lyle, and he is forced to kill her in self-defense. This event deeply traumatizes him, but it also leads to personal growth. Through his relationship with Anew, Lyle comes to believe that people can understand each other, even across divides. Her death also helps him come to terms with his brother's legacy and his own feelings about his family's death. In the film Awakening of the Trailblazer, Lyle continues to serve as a Gundam Meister, piloting the Gundam Zabanya in humanity's first contact with the extraterrestrial ELS. He participates in the final battle to protect Earth, and he carries a photograph of Anew with him, showing that he still cherishes her memory. His role in the film is as a skilled ranged combatant who supports his team in the battle against the ELS. Lyle's notable abilities include exceptional marksmanship, inherited from his twin brother, and a high combat sense. He is particularly skilled in long-range sniping, but he also excels in using multiple weapons simultaneously, as demonstrated by the Gundam Zabanya's heavy weapons loadout. His quick-draw skill is noted as being exceptional. Throughout the series and film, Lyle develops from a man burdened by his brother's shadow and unsure of his own place into a confident Gundam Meister who has made the name Lockon Stratos his own. He learns to confront his past, including his complicated feelings toward his brother and his family's death, and he finds purpose in fighting for a future where understanding between people is possible.
