Description
Nanase Matsuura is a supporting character in the Macross Frontier universe. She does not appear in the first film, Macross Frontier: The False Songstress, but she plays a role in the television series and appears in the second film, Macross Frontier: The Wings of Goodbye. She is a student at Mihoshi Academy and a classmate of Alto Saotome, Michael Blanc, and Luca Angelloni. She is enrolled in the Fine Arts department and works part-time as a waitress at the Nyan-Nyan Chinese restaurant aboard the Macross Frontier fleet. She is described as a shy, quiet, and reserved young woman who wears glasses and has difficulty opening up to others, a contrast to her more outgoing friend Ranka Lee. Despite her typical shyness, she can become bold and decisive when a situation calls for it. Her motivation is closely tied to supporting Ranka Lee's dream of becoming a singer. She encourages Ranka and helps her behind the scenes. Nanase possesses notable artistic abilities and is skilled at drawing and painting. Her talents eventually lead to her being hired by Grace O'Connor to work as Ranka's costume designer. Her role in the story is primarily defined by her friendship with Ranka. She is one of Ranka's closest and most loyal friends, providing emotional support and practical assistance. She is also one of the few people who knows Ranka well before she becomes a famous singer. In the television series, Nanase is severely wounded in her right eye and body during a Vajra attack inside the Macross Frontier fleet. She is rescued and taken to a shelter by Sheryl Nome, an act that saves her life. This event marks a significant moment of development for her, highlighting both the dangers faced by civilians during the conflict and the unexpected kindness of the superstar Sheryl. Her key relationships include her deep friendship with Ranka, her unacknowledged admirer Luca Angelloni who has a crush on her, and her bond with Sheryl Nome after being saved by her. In the second film, she appears as part of Ranka's entourage, serving as her make-up artist and hairstylist, which continues her role as a devoted supporter behind the scenes.
