Description
Domon Kasshu is the central character of his narrative, a young man driven by a deeply personal mission that shapes his every action. As the Gundam Fighter representing the space colony of Neo-Japan, he pilots a series of advanced mobile fighters, beginning with the Shining Gundam and later upgrading to the God Gundam, which is also known as the Burning Gundam in some adaptations.

Domon's background is marked by both rigorous training and profound family tragedy. He ran away from home as a child, and at the age of ten, he began a decade of intense martial arts study under the legendary fighter known as Master Asia. Upon completing his training, he was bestowed the title of King of Hearts, which marks him as the leader of the Shuffle Alliance, a group of elite Gundam Fighters. However, he returned to his homeland to find his family shattered: his mother was killed during a conflict, his father, Dr. Raizo Kasshu, was sentenced to cryogenic imprisonment for creating the apocalyptic Devil Gundam, and his older brother, Kyoji, had stolen the machine and fled to Earth. The Neo-Japanese government offered Domon a singular deal: locate his brother and win the thirteenth Gundam Fight, and in exchange, his father would be freed.

In terms of personality, Domon is initially seen as brash, impulsive, and intensely emotional, often letting his anger and frustration override his better judgment. His primary motivation is his mission, and in the early stages, he is so single-minded that he famously interrupts other people’s battles to shove a torn photograph of his brother at them, asking if they have seen him. Yet beneath this rough exterior lies a strong sense of justice. Despite his obsession with his personal goal, he frequently sets it aside to protect the innocent and weak, demonstrating an honest and kind, albeit clumsy, nature. His mentor once described him as a fool who loses sight of what is necessary at the most important time, but this very emotional directness is also the source of his great strength.

The character's role in the story is defined by his search for the Devil Gundam and his brother, as well as his participation in the Gundam Fight tournament. Throughout this journey, he forms key rivalries and friendships with other Gundam Fighters, including Chibodee Crocket, Sai Saici, George de Sand, and Argo Gulskii, who eventually become his comrades in the new Shuffle Alliance. His relationship with Rain Mikamura is arguably the most critical. As his childhood friend, partner, and mobile suit engineer, Rain’s calm and level-headed personality serves as a constant counterbalance to Domon’s fiery temper. Domon becomes psychologically dependent on her presence, and the thought of losing her can send him into a panic or a rage. Another pivotal relationship is with his mentor, Master Asia. Domon is devastated to learn that his venerated teacher has sided with the Devil Gundam, forcing him into a painful conflict against the man who taught him everything.

Domon undergoes significant development over the course of his journey. He begins as a man driven solely by revenge and a desire to clear his family's name. Over time, he learns that he cannot fight alone. A major turning point occurs during training in the Guyana Highlands, where he discovers that the key to unlocking his full potential, specifically the Shining Gundam's Super Mode, is not anger but a serene state of mind. This lesson forces him to evolve as a martial artist and a person. His growth is further cemented when he learns the heartbreaking truth about his brother Kyoji, who was not a traitor but a victim of conspiracy, forcing Domon to confront his own motivations and forgive. By the end, he learns to fight not for revenge, but for those he cares about, accepting his role as a leader and a genuinely compassionate warrior.

Domon’s notable abilities are an extension of his martial arts mastery. He is a highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant, trained in the school of the Undefeated of the East, with feats such as catching bullets with his fingers. This physical prowess translates directly into his piloting. His signature technique is the Shining Finger, a devastating move where his Gundam's hand glows with energy to capture and destroy an opponent. After upgrading to the God Gundam, this evolves into the more powerful God Finger, also known as the Erupting Burning Finger. He later learns his master’s ultimate technique, the Sekiha Tenkyoken, a powerful wave of energy. In his most advanced state, Domon can enter the Hyper Mode, which activates the God Gundam's full power, generating a ring of fire and allowing him to perform techniques like the Bakunetsu God Finger. Ultimately, his greatest ability is channeling his emotions into his fighting spirit, which culminates in the technique used to finally destroy the Devil Gundam, a move powered not by anger, but by love.
