TV-Series
Description
In the anime Kurogane Communication, Haruka is a thirteen-year-old girl who awakens as the sole human survivor on a post-apocalyptic Earth following a devastating global war. She had been placed into a cold sleep chamber by her parents during the final conflict, where she remained for approximately thirty years before being discovered and revived by a group of five robots. This event took place about one year before the main story begins, giving her time to adjust to her new reality.

Haruka is characterized by a remarkably positive, optimistic, and cheerful disposition, which stands in stark contrast to the desolate and dangerous world around her. Rather than succumbing to despair or becoming gritty, she is a straightforward, frank, and hardworking individual who channels her considerable energy into curiosity and an intense desire to help those around her. Although her personality is not unique on its own, within the context of a post-holocaust world filled with ruins and rogue war machines, her unwavering sweetness and caring nature make her an exceptional figure. Despite her generally upbeat attitude, she is deeply haunted by sudden flashbacks and dreams concerning her parents, the true nature of her past, and the circumstances that led to her being alone. A persistent, underlying motivation for her is the yearning to discover if any other human beings have managed to survive.

In the story, Haruka lives as a surrogate daughter and family member to five robots who care for her in an abandoned high-rise building. Each robot has a distinct role and personality, forming her primary support system. Spike is a boyish android very attached to her, while Trigger is a short-tempered robot with a penchant for firearms. Reeves is the thoughtful cook whose intimidating appearance belies his gentle nature, and Cleric serves as the intelligent mentor figure. Angela is the most complex of her companions; a sword-wielding warrior who initially hates humans due to her mysterious past, she gradually warms to Haruka, with their bond becoming a key emotional pillar of the series. Haruka, for her part, loves all these robots unconditionally and considers them her true family. Her role is that of the emotional core of the group, inspiring them through her optimism and resilience as they face constant threats such as water depletion and violent remnant war machines.

Haruka undergoes significant development as she uncovers the truth about her world. She eventually learns the horrifying details of her parents' sacrifice, as they gave their lives to ensure the cold sleep machine could function. This revelation pushes her character drama to its peak, forcing her to reconcile her past with her present family. As the narrative progresses, she discovers that other humans did not perish but instead left Earth to build a colony on Mars. In the conclusion of the anime adaptation, Haruka takes a surviving battleship to join them; an epilogue shows her years later, having returned to Earth with her own daughter to reunite with her old robot comrades. Regarding her abilities, Haruka possesses no superhuman powers or combat skills. Her most notable capabilities are her unyielding positive thinking, her hardworking nature, and her profound empathy, which allow her to form deep connections with the robots and maintain her humanity in a world devoid of other people.
