Description
Madoka Mano is the grandmother of Yohko Mano and the mother of Sayoko Mano. She served as the 107th Devil Hunter in a long family line dedicated to defending the world from demons, and she eventually passes the title and responsibilities on to her granddaughter Yohko. Although she is no longer young enough to carry out active demon hunting duties on a regular basis, she retains considerable fighting skill and a determined spirit. She has trained Yohko since childhood in the arts of the Devil Hunter, teaching her combat techniques and the knowledge needed to face supernatural threats. She takes her role as a mentor very seriously and is willing to put her own life on the line to ensure that Yohko is prepared. Despite her serious dedication to the family mission, she has a playful and at times mischievous personality. She frequently argues with her daughter Sayoko, and when a strange event temporarily rejuvenates her into a younger body, she eagerly looks forward to using the opportunity to have fun. She maintains a hidden shrine beneath the Mano house, which contains portraits of past Devil Hunters, a library of family history, and a clock that acts as a seal for a powerful demon. Her usual weapon is a metal nunchaku, and she relies on her combat experience and cunning to handle threats when necessary. She also holds a strong sense of family legacy and is driven by the need to preserve the Mano clan's duty as protectors. Her twin sister, Chiaki Mano, became her bitter rival after losing a competition between them for the title of the 107th Devil Hunter, leading to a lasting estrangement and Chiaki training her own granddaughter to oppose Yohko. In her role as the elder of the Mano family, Madoka combines the authority of a seasoned warrior with the liveliness of a grandmother who still enjoys stirring things up, making her a memorable presence in the series.
