Description
Bob Bragan is a supporting character and antagonist in the animated film Golgo 13: The Professional. He serves as a Lieutenant in a United States Special Forces unit. Bragan is recruited by the wealthy and vengeful oil magnate Leonard Dawson, who uses his vast resources to assemble a task force of military and intelligence personnel to hunt down the professional assassin known as Golgo 13. Dawson’s motivation is to avenge the death of his son, Robert Dawson, who was killed by the hitman in the film's opening sequence.

As a military officer, Bragan is portrayed as a determined and capable leader. He is a tactical pursuer who brings a militarized and organized counterpoint to the lone-wolf methods of Golgo 13. His personality is defined by a professional dedication to his mission, which in this context is the elimination of a single, highly elusive target. He is not motivated by personal vendetta but by his assignment, making him a formidable and relentless adversary who uses his training and resources to track the assassin across multiple locations.

Bragan’s role in the story is to serve as the primary field commander in the manhunt for Golgo 13. He leads a team of CIA agents and military personnel in a series of ambushes designed to corner and kill the elusive hitman. The cat-and-mouse dynamic between Bragan and Golgo 13 intensifies the film's stakes, providing a conventional military pursuit contrast to the unconventional and solitary assassin. Their conflict begins when Bragan and his unit track Golgo 13 to Sicily, where they ambush him on the coastline after he completes an assassination. Although Golgo 13 escapes this initial encounter, Bragan’s team manages to kill a key informant of the hitman, known as the Clockmaker.

The most significant confrontation between the two occurs in San Francisco. Bragan and his unit attempt to anticipate Golgo 13's next move, analyzing the city to find the most likely vantage point for a sniper. The lieutenant underestimates Golgo 13's exceptional skill, as the assassin kills his target by shooting through an obstructing building. After this successful hit, a high-speed chase through the city streets ensues. Bragan demonstrates tactical thinking by setting up a roadblock and having his men fire bazookas at Golgo 13's car, destroying it. However, Golgo 13 had escaped the vehicle, letting it roll driverless into the trap. As Bragan’s men inspect the wreckage, Golgo 13 emerges and opens fire, killing the entire unit. In a final act of defiance, Bragan attempts to run the assassin down with his car. Before he dies from the three rounds Golgo fires through his windscreen, Bragan manages to fire a single shot through his own side window, wounding Golgo 13. His car then crashes and bursts into flames. This final action shows Bragan’s development as a character who, even in defeat, proves to be a more capable adversary than most, as he is one of the few individuals in the film to successfully injure the legendary hitman. His key relationships are with Leonard Dawson, who coordinates the larger manhunt, and his own team of soldiers, whom he leads into battle. Bragan’s notable abilities lie in his tactical leadership, his skill in orchestrating large-scale ambushes, and his personal tenacity and marksmanship under fire.
