Description
Homura Kōgetsu hails from planet Oedo, abandoned by her mother Kurenai Kōgetsu in childhood. Kurenai left a stuffed animal, fueling Homura's belief in their reunion. Trafficked by thugs bound for Guilst, she was rescued by the android Valkyrie Yuna, one of the Demon King's Four Shining Stars. Valkyrie became her mentor, training her in swordsmanship using the Ether Gear "Soul Blade" to create and manipulate ether blades. She shared tales of the starship Edens Zero and its captain, the Demon King. Homura devoted her childhood to honing her skills, aiming to challenge the Demon King.
Discrimination on Oedo for not being Homura's biological parent prompted Valkyrie to disappear, seeking Homura's birth mother. This spurred Homura's search. Her quest led her to the Edens Zero crew; she joined in exchange for passage to find Valkyrie. She demonstrated combat prowess by bisecting a heat-seeking missile targeting Shiki Granbell and deflecting bullets with her sword.
Homura maintains a calm demeanor but often voices thoughts aloud, making secrets difficult. Her directness can seem rude, and she harbors a strong desire to battle formidable opponents, including the Demon King. A notable weakness is heat intolerance, causing discomfort even in warm environments like baths. Though generally composed, intense anger surfaces when provoked, such as encountering a Valkyrie replica.
Her search ended tragically with Valkyrie's death. Homura inherited her mentor's title "Sword of Edens," adopting the name "Valkyrie Homura" and solidifying her place among the Four Shining Stars, Edens Zero's elite guardians. Her story later intersected with the multiverse, specifically "Universe 0," where she discovered Valkyrie alive and that Kurenai genuinely loved her. This resolved her abandonment trauma, though her father's identity remains unknown.
Homura's swordsmanship integrates Soul Blade techniques: "Five Sword Fencing: Leopard Stance" splits her blade for rapid slashes, while "Leopard Claw Frenzy" delivers wide-range cuts. Advanced moves include "Warrior Maid Single-Sword Attack: Dragon Flash," a lunging strike followed by a downward slash, and "Odin Strike," summoning numerous ether blades for explosive impacts. She also employs thrusts like "Snake Strike" and "Warrior Maid Single-Sword Attack: Snake Bite." Her combat emphasizes precision, enhanced reflexes, and agility, enabling her to defeat groups of armed foes single-handedly. She possesses horseback riding skills.
Visually, Homura has a slim, curvaceous figure, navy blue hair in a high ponytail tied with a yellow ribbon, dark-brown eyes, and a beauty mark beneath her left eye. Her primary outfit is a sleeveless yellow kimono with red floral designs, forearm sleeves, a fitted leotard, knee-length stockings, and sandals. Alternate attire includes a light-colored floral kimono in Digitalis, a bunny-girl costume with fishnet stockings during the Mildian arc, and after Sun Jewel, a modified kimono with cloud motifs, navy-blue hakama, and black boots.
Her development traces a path from a student seeking validation to a self-assured guardian. Initially defined by abandonment and the pursuit of her mentor, she evolved into a protector wielding Valkyrie's legacy. The discovery of Universe 0 provided emotional closure, affirming her mother's love and her mentor's survival, though the origin of her heat sensitivity remains unexplained.
