Description
Greg Day, known in the original Japanese version as Gogyo Godai, is a character from the anime B-Daman Fireblast. He is a tall, big-built man with dark green hair and orange eyes, and is often distinguished by his mustache. His typical attire consists of a long-sleeved white shirt, pants, and black shoes. As a young adult, he did not yet have facial hair.
Greg is the husband of the archaeologist Himiko Day and the father of their three children: Aona, Roma, and Kamon. He runs the B-Junk B-Daman Club and takes on the role of a mentor and trainer to Kamon, helping him hone his skills as a B-Shot. However, Greg keeps his true identity as Kamon's father a secret for much of the story. This is because Kamon lost his memories following a fierce battle against his older brother, Roma, and Greg chooses to wait for the right moment to reveal the truth, ideally when Kamon regains his lost past.
Greg's personality is defined by his deep, protective care for his children, especially Kamon. He is deeply concerned for Kamon's safety and is determined to guide him back onto the correct path as a B-Der, as he fears that Roma might go to any length to stop Kamon or lure him into the world of darkness. His patience and foresight are evident in his decision to withhold the truth about their relationship, prioritizing Kamon's well-being and recovery over his own desire to be recognized as a father.
In the story, Greg serves as a crucial supporting figure. He is responsible for creating the Version-Up Parts that allow Kamon's legendary B-Daman, Drive Garuburn, to become more powerful. His shop becomes a central hub for Kamon and his friends, providing them with a place to train and gather. Greg possesses extensive knowledge about Kamon's past as a B-Master and the events that led to his amnesia, making him a key figure in the fight against Roma's influence. For a significant period, he and Aona share the burden of this secret, working together to protect Kamon while helping him recover his lost abilities and memories.
Greg's development is closely tied to the resolution of his family's conflict. His primary progression throughout the series is the slow, careful unveiling of his relationship to Kamon and the tragic history between the brothers. In a pivotal moment, Greg is forced to confront the past directly, explaining to Kamon's friends that Roma is the Grand B-Master and that Kamon lost his memories in a battle against him. It is also revealed that Greg had left Crestland to search for and retrieve the scattered parts of Drive Garuburn after the B-Daman was destroyed by Roma. His journey culminates not in a battle victory, but in the successful restoration of his son's heart and memories, achieved through the efforts of Kamon's friends and the legendary B-Daman.
Greg does not have a notable B-Daman of his own, as his talents lie in creation and instruction. His notable abilities are in engineering, as shown by his creation of powerful upgrade parts, and strategic mentorship. He is a skilled analyst of B-Daman battles and a patient, effective teacher, understanding how to push Kamon to unlock his hidden potential.
