Description
Muneakira Yagyuu is the male protagonist of the anime series that begins with Hyakka Ryouran: Samurai Girls and continues into its second season, Samurai Bride. He is a sixteen-year-old student at the Buou Academic School, a prestigious institution for the children of warrior families located at the base of Mount Fuji in an alternate modern-day Japan known as Great Japan. Muneakira is the de facto head of the Yagyu family dojo, a role he assumed after his father, Soyo Yagyuu, disappeared. The Yagyu family has served the Tokugawa clan for centuries, teaching them swordsmanship, and Muneakira is determined to uphold that tradition and eventually become the official master of the Yagyu Dojo.

Muneakira possesses a gentle and mild personality. He is a kind and caring individual who treats everyone he meets with warmth and respect. He is notably forgiving, holding no grudges even after being attacked or mistreated by others. His most defining trait is his strong aversion to killing; even when his own life is in danger, he hesitates to take a life. This pacifistic nature sets him apart in a world of samurai conflict, but it also drives him to seek non-lethal solutions. He is always willing to help anyone in trouble, regardless of whether they are friend or foe, and his genuine concern for others inspires loyalty in those around him.

Muneakira's main motivation is to protect his friends and the peace of Great Japan. Initially, his goal is to take over his family's dojo and maintain its legacy. However, as he becomes entangled in the power struggles at Buou Academic School and the emergence of Master Samurai, his focus shifts to safeguarding those he cares about and confronting the forces that threaten the nation. In Samurai Bride, he is afflicted by a curse that renders him unable to fight directly. As a result, his role evolves into that of a catalyst: he must awaken seven Master Samurai and create a Samurai Bride to overcome the new threats.

In the story, Muneakira is the central figure around whom the Master Samurai are awakened. His kiss with Jubei Yagyuu in the first season ignites her powers, and he subsequently forms similar bonds with other female warriors, including Sen Tokugawa and Yukimura Sanada. His key relationships include Jubei, who becomes his first Master Samurai and strongest ally; Sen, his childhood friend who harbors deep feelings for him and later becomes his third Master Samurai; and Yukimura, who initially opposes him but eventually becomes one of his closest supporters. He also interacts with other Master Samurai such as Kanetsugu Naoe, Keiji Maeda, and Charles d'Artagnan, each of whom he helps unlock their true potential.

Throughout the series, particularly in Samurai Bride, Muneakira undergoes significant development. He starts as a somewhat naive but determined young samurai and grows into a more mature leader who understands the weight of his responsibilities. Despite being unable to fight due to his curse, he finds ways to support his allies through his unwavering resolve and emotional strength. His ability to awaken and unite Master Samurai becomes his most important contribution, as he successfully awakens Yukimura and Sen once again, and even helps Jubei when she is in danger, leading to the coexistence of both her personalities as a true Master Samurai.

Muneakira is a skilled swordsman, a master of the Shinkage-ryu fighting style. He is highly proficient with a blade, a skill he has trained diligently to honor his family's legacy. However, in Samurai Bride, he is barred from using his swordsmanship because of the curse placed upon him. To compensate, he relies on his strategic mind and his unique ability to form deep bonds with the Master Samurai, awakening and empowering them. This bond-making ability is his most notable non-combat power, serving as the key to creating the Samurai Bride and confronting the Dark Samurai and other antagonists. Overall, Muneakira is a compassionate, noble-hearted samurai whose true strength lies not in his sword, but in his capacity to inspire and unite others.
