Description
Kodama Himegami is a mysterious second-year student at Tenbi Academy in the anime Maken-Ki! Battling Venus. She is a key member of the school's Security Committee, which is part of the magical enforcement organization known as Maken-ki. Himegami possesses an S-rank ability and wields shikigami, paper-like spirits that follow her and address her as "ojou-sama." Her true nature is not fully explained, but she requires ambient magical energy called Element to survive. This dependency keeps her bound to the Tenbi Academy grounds, as the Element flows less fully in other locations. To overcome this, she obtains a stone imbued with Element, allowing her to travel to the summer training grounds.
Himegami is petite with very long blonde hair and green eyes, and she often appears aloof and proud. She declares the protagonist Takeru Ooyama her mortal enemy after seeing a mysterious mark on his chest. However, her attitude toward him is inconsistent; she frequently kisses him, leaving other characters confused about whether she still harbors genuine hostility. Despite her haughty demeanor, she has notable weaknesses. She is deathly afraid of ghosts and supernatural beings and can be frightened even by obviously made-up scary stories. She also has a soft spot for cute things, particularly rare and inexpensive stuffed animal toys, which allowed the Finnian twins to manipulate her into forgiving a trick by offering a king penguin plush. She can be sharp-tongued and uses small electrical shocks from one of her shikigami to punish Takeru for his perverted glances.
Himegami's role in the story is central. She is one of the main heroines and a crucial asset in the battles against the rival group Venus and other threats. Her possession of the legendary magatama known as Yasakani makes her a target; the Kamigari organization views her as a key to unlocking the power of Amanohara. The Venus arc involves her kidnapping, leading to a rescue mission by the other Maken-ki members. In combat, Himegami can animate her shikigami, giving them physical humanoid bodies to fight on her behalf. One of her primary shikigami allows her to channel electricity, with a powerful attack called God's Roar that shoots a large beam of lightning. She can also summon even larger spirits that rival the power of the Legendary Eight Maken. Over the course of the series, her initial enmity toward Takeru softens as she becomes more integrated into the group, though she retains her dignified and sometimes contradictory personality.
