Description
Kakeru Ryūgasaki, known as Riki Ryugasaki in the English version of the anime B-Daman CrossFire, serves as the main protagonist of the series. He is an elementary school boy from East City who initially has little interest in the sport of B-Daman but finds his life changed after a chance encounter with a powerful B-Daman named Thunder Dracyan. His most defining characteristic is his burning desire to become an adventurer, a dream that fuels his curiosity about the world and its hidden mysteries. He is often described as cheerful, upbeat, and modern, with a particular fondness for the word mystery, which he exclaims whenever he encounters something intriguing or puzzling. Despite his energetic and sometimes airheaded nature, he is not portrayed as unintelligent; his passion for adventure narratives makes him surprisingly knowledgeable about ruins and ancient history, often allowing him to act as the group's informal expert on archaeological matters.

Kakeru initially joins the East Block as a new B-Shot, and his primary motivation throughout the story evolves from simple curiosity about the urban legends surrounding secret B-Daman tournaments to a deeper, more personal quest. After acquiring his partner Dracyan, he learns that the B-Daman has lost all memory of its past, and Kakeru resolves to help his companion recover those lost fragments of history, leading them to explore ancient B-Daman ruins. In terms of his role in the story, he begins as an enthusiastic novice who must learn the basics of the game, but his natural talent and positive attitude quickly propel him into becoming a central figure among the East Block B-Shots. His journey involves participating in high-stakes Crossfire matches, defending his block, and ultimately confronting major antagonists like Novu Moru and Basara Kurochi as he uncovers the secrets of the B-Daman world.

Kakeru’s key relationships are built around his teammates and rivals. He is often the bright and optimistic center of the East Block, contrasting with the more cynical Simon Sumiya and providing a balance to the group dynamic. He shares a close friendship with Yuki Washimura and Kaito Samejima, who help him acclimate to the sport. His most significant rivalry is with Samuru Shigami, the stoic and highly skilled top B-Shot of the West Block. While Samuru initially views Kakeru with detached skepticism, he eventually comes to respect him as a genuine rival, recognizing a unique power within him that sets him apart from other players. Kakeru’s persistent and friendly attempts to break through Samuru's cold exterior form a central part of his character arc. He also shares a profound bond with his B-Daman partner, Dracyan. Unlike the brash and talkative partners of other characters, Dracyan is humble and wise, often providing gentle advice and teaching Kakeru to be a graceful loser who is proud of his best efforts.

Throughout the series, Kakeru experiences significant development. He evolves from a boy who stumbled into the sport by accident into a dedicated and formidable B-Shot capable of standing up to the strongest opponents. While his inexperience sometimes leads to losses, he consistently learns and grows from these defeats. A major turning point occurs when he suffers a heroic collapse due to overexertion, which causes him to temporarily lose all of his current memories, mirroring Dracyan’s original condition. He must then journey back to the ancient B-Daman ruins to regain his sense of self, a trial that solidifies his resolve and completes his development from a curious boy to a true hero. As for his notable abilities, Kakeru utilizes Thunder Dracyan, a power-type B-Daman. Under his control, Dracyan is characterized as a Lightning Bruiser; it can fire shots that rebound with incredible speed thanks to its Drive core, overcoming the typical limitation of power types which often suffer from slow firing rates. Over time, Kakeru develops the stamina to fire consecutive marbles without fatigue and learns to master Dracyan's formidable power, allowing him to compete with even the fastest rapid-fire B-Daman and control types.
