Description
Aoi Miyoshi, whose real name is Soichiro Ono, is a main character in the anime. He is a slim young man with short, spiky light brown hair and matching light brown eyes, typically dressed in a black jacket over a white or pink shirt with a red tie.

Born as the illegitimate son of a prominent politician, Aoi grew up financially well-off and had access to extensive academic resources. This background allowed him to study in Europe, where he became proficient in several languages including Chinese, Russian, German, and English. His time abroad also gave him a more liberal outlook on life, making concepts of liberty and equality deeply important to him. Despite his privileged upbringing, he is a thoughtful individual who recognizes corruption and exploitation for what they are, even acknowledging his own country's heinous acts against other nations.

Aoi presents himself as a lively, easy-going, and charismatic young man with a positive spirit. He works as a photographer at a studio in Shanghai, which serves as a cover for his real occupation as a spy for the Sakurai Kikan organization. This friendly, approachable demeanor makes him highly adaptable socially, able to get along with practically anyone regardless of age, gender, race, or class. He often displays boyish charm and old-fashioned chivalry, particularly towards women, though he respects those who do not respond to his flirtatious nature.

Beneath this affable exterior, however, Aoi is a deeply private person who maintains emotional distance even from those he considers friends. He is naturally intuitive and acutely observant, with strong deductive reasoning skills and an amazing capacity for memory. While his teammates often view him as impulsive and rash, he is actually quite strategic and well thought out, though his decisive nature can occasionally lead him into trouble. He has a strong sense of justice and a great deal of compassion, and he will speak up when he disagrees with problematic remarks made by others.

Aoi's primary motivation stems from his disdain for war and the destruction it causes. Having lost his fiancée, Shizune Yusa, he felt he had nothing left to lose by agreeing to become a spy, hoping to make a difference in history and somehow reach peace through his work. His altruism is based on his personal ethics, making him more noble and brave than necessarily generous. He would put his own life in danger for strangers before doing something trivial for free, and he prioritizes the safety of others over vengeance.

His role in the story is as a member of the Sakurai Kikan spy team operating in 1931 Shanghai. He works closely with his teammate Kazura Iha, a relationship marked by frequent lectures from Kazura about Aoi's perceived impulsiveness, though the two form an effective if contrasting partnership. The team also includes Yukina Sonogi and Natsume Kagiya. Aoi's most significant personal relationship is with his former fiancée Shizune Yusa, whom he believed to be dead. Shizune, who is also known as the Prophet due to her ability of foresight, faked her death to bear the responsibility of helping guide world rulers. She taught Aoi to play the violin, a skill he continues to practice though not at a professional level. Upon discovering her alive, Aoi confronted her and was adamant that she return to him, demonstrating that he is not willing to let go of someone he loves without a fight. The incident left him crushed, but he steeled his emotions to continue his mission, proving his capacity for compartmentalization when necessary.

Throughout the series, Aoi demonstrates significant development in balancing his personal desires with his professional duties. His loyalty to his ideals is only surpassed by his loyalty to his comrades and their safety. He is naturally forgiving and believes in redemption, often giving people second chances to prove themselves, though he is not one to make excuses for others and reacts harshly when necessary. He strives to resolve conflict and believe in people, and his well-meaning attitude balances his occasionally brash approach to making things right.

Aoi possesses telekinetic abilities that allow him to manipulate the speed of objects around him, requiring only that he can see the object he intends to affect. This power proves useful for situations such as dodging bullets, though it has a limited duration of use from the moment he activates it. He relies heavily on this power in combat, sometimes using it impulsively when panicked. Beyond his supernatural abilities, Aoi is professionally proficient with both still photography and motion picture equipment, a skill that supports his cover identity. He also plays the violin, having learned from his fiancée Shizune. His combination of linguistic skills, observational prowess, strategic thinking, and telekinetic power makes him a valuable asset to his team, even as his strong moral compass and personal attachments sometimes complicate his missions.
