Description
Aoko Nakamori is a central character in the Magic Kaito series, recognized as the childhood friend and romantic interest of the main protagonist, Kaito Kuroba. She is a sixteen to seventeen-year-old student attending Ekoda High School, where she is in class 2-B alongside Kaito, her best friend Keiko Momoi, the witch Akako Koizumi, and the detective Saguru Hakuba. Her father is Ginzo Nakamori, a police inspector who is famously obsessed with capturing the phantom thief known as Kaitou Kid.

Aoko has a personality that is both sweet and gentle yet boisterous and fiery, often displaying an impulsive and easily riled-up temperament that she has inherited from her father. She is frequently seen shouting and engaging in loud, violent displays, most often triggered by the antics of her friend Kaito or her hatred for Kaitou Kid. Despite her temper, she also has a mischievous side and sometimes acts in a childish manner, such as referring to herself in the third person, which is considered cute in Japanese culture. She is shown to be very intelligent, particularly skilled in mathematics, though she may also struggle with low self-esteem at times.

Her primary motivation stems from her deep disdain for Kaitou Kid, whom she blames for humiliating her father and stealing his time and attention away from their family. This irony is lost on Aoko, as she is completely unaware that the thief she despises is actually her own best friend, Kaito, in disguise. She frequently attends Kaitou Kid’s heists, partly to support her father and partly out of a personal grudge against the thief.

The most significant relationship in Aoko’s life is with Kaito Kuroba. They have been best friends since they first met as young children at a clock tower, where Kaito cheered her up with a magic trick involving a rose. Their friendship is characterized by constant bickering and physical comedy, with Kaito often teasing her by flipping her skirt and Aoko retaliating by chasing him with a mop. Despite this, Kaito is shown to be quite protective of her, and there are strong indications that they have romantic feelings for each other, though neither has openly admitted it. In one instance, Aoko became suspicious that Kaito was Kaitou Kid and attempted to prove his innocence by handcuffing him to her during a scheduled heist, but Kaito escaped and used a dummy to fool her, successfully diverting her suspicions.

In terms of development, Aoko’s role in the story often revolves around being a foil to Kaito, keeping him grounded in his normal life while he operates in secret as a phantom thief. Her relationship with her father is important; she wishes he would spend more time at home instead of chasing Kaitou Kid, which fuels her hatred for the thief. She is also friends with Saguru Hakuba, though she is unaware of his suspicions that Kaito is Kid, a topic that often irritates her. Her notable abilities include high intelligence, particularly in solving complex math problems quickly, and a surprising proficiency in wielding a mop as an impromptu weapon during her frequent arguments with Kaito.
