Description
Apollo is the main protagonist of the story, a young boy of approximately thirteen years who begins his journey as an orphan living on the streets of a devastated future Earth. He was found and named by his best friend, Baron, who gave him the name of the legendary Greek god of the sun. Before being discovered by the organization DEAVA, Apollo survived by living with a group of homeless children, stealing food and developing a fiercely independent, wild nature.
Apollo's personality is defined by a stark contrast between his rough, aggressive exterior and his deeply kind and noble spirit. His behavior is often bestial and rude, and he is quick to anger, frequently getting into fights with other characters, particularly Sirius. This animalistic demeanor is reflected in his physical abilities and habits, as he possesses extremely sharp reflexes, a supernaturally keen sense of smell, and remarkable agility, often running on all fours. Despite his feral tendencies, he has a warm and caring side, showing great sensitivity to the feelings of others and a fierce determination to protect his friends.
His primary motivation throughout the story is initially driven by a desire for revenge after his orphan friends are taken by the Shadow Angels, the primary antagonists. This drive leads him to become a pilot for the mechanical angel Aquarion, where his natural talents and incredible fighting strength quickly become apparent. Within the narrative, Apollo is believed by many to be the reincarnation of Apollonius, a legendary hero from the lost continent of Atlantis who betrayed his own kind to side with humanity 12,000 years prior. This belief is a central pillar of his role, as he is seen as the prophesied Solar Wing who can finally pilot the true Aquarion to defend the world.
His key relationships are central to his development. His dynamic with Silvia is particularly important, as they start as belligerent rivals who constantly argue, but their connection deepens into a romantic bond, as she is believed to be the reincarnation of Celiane, Apollonius's ancient lover. He also shares a significant rivalry with Sirius, Silvia's brother, as their opposing personalities—Apollo's wild nature versus Sirius's refined demeanor—often clash, yet this conflict ultimately helps them unlock new powers and become allies. A crucial relationship is with his childhood friend Baron, whose tragic death serves as a profound emotional wound and a driving force for Apollo.
Apollo undergoes significant development as he learns to control his raw abilities and understand the importance of teamwork, moving from a lone wolf seeking revenge to a valued member of a group fighting for the survival of all humanity. The most profound development, however, comes with the revelation of his true origin. It is later disclosed that Apollo's soul is not the reincarnation of the great hero Apollonius, but rather of Pollon, Apollonius's loyal winged hound. This explains his animalistic traits and his deep, unending love for Celiane's reincarnation, Silvia, as a wish to be by her side as a human after spending his previous life as her pet. In the final act, Apollo makes a heroic sacrifice, choosing to give up his own life along with Sirius and the Shadow Angel Toma to restore the world's dying Tree of Life. Before his sacrifice, he promises Silvia that he will return to her in another 12,000 years.
Apollo possesses several notable abilities that set him apart as an Element user. His most prominent talent is his immense physical strength, which is so great that while piloting Aquarion he can shatter the head of a giant Cherubim soldier with a single punch. He is an extraordinarily gifted pilot, showing an almost instinctive mastery of the Aquarion, particularly in its Solar formation where he serves as the head unit. His animal-like senses, including his sense of smell and his vision (which is said to be 5.0), make him a formidable hunter and warrior even outside of his mecha. When enraged, his golden eyes are known to turn red, signaling a surge in his already ferocious combat power. He is also marked by a distinct X-shaped scar on his right cheek, a physical reminder of his harsh life.
