OVA
Description
Garcia Fernando Lovelace is the young head of the Lovelace family, a prominent and once-powerful clan from Venezuela. Following the assassination of his father, Diego Jose San Fernando Lovelace, Garcia becomes the twelfth head of the family. He is a boy of about twelve or thirteen years old during his first appearance but is slightly older, around fifteen, during the events of Roberta's Blood Trail. His appearance is that of a slender, well-dressed youth with short blond hair, brown eyes, and a pale complexion, often seen in refined clothing that reflects his aristocratic upbringing.
In terms of personality, Garcia initially displays the immaturity typical of a sheltered child, prone to pouting and showing a sense of entitlement. However, the assassination of his father forces him to mature rapidly. He becomes remarkably shrewd, confident, and solemn, taking great pride in his family name despite the dangerous circumstances that surround it. He possesses an iron will and a strong sense of responsibility that is unusual for someone his age, leading others to comment that his burdens will cause him to go gray before adulthood. He treats his maids, Roberta and Fabiola, as extended family and expects the same loyalty in return. He is also perceptive, able to see through the facades of others, which is why he trusts Rock, a fellow outsider to Roanapur's criminal underworld, more than anyone else in the city.
Garcia's primary motivation is to preserve his family and salvage what remains of his loved ones. After his father is killed in a politically motivated bombing, his maid Roberta reverts to her former identity as a bloodthirsty guerrilla soldier and travels to the lawless city of Roanapur to hunt down the conspirators. Garcia refuses to let her succumb to a path of vengeance. He journeys to Roanapur with his new maid, Fabiola, not to seek retribution for his father, but to stop Roberta from destroying herself through her rampage. He believes that killing the perpetrators would only perpetuate a senseless dance of death, and he is determined to carry the weight of her sins alongside her.
In the story of Roberta's Blood Trail, Garcia serves as the catalyst for the plot, hiring the Lagoon Company to help him find and stop Roberta. Unlike other residents of Roanapur who are drawn into the conflict for money or survival, Garcia represents the moral anchor, attempting to intervene with a plan rooted in preserving humanity rather than perpetuating violence. His role escalates to a dramatic climax where he concocts a risky scheme to break Roberta's cycle of revenge, even putting his own life on the line to shock her back to her senses. His actions directly lead to the end of Roberta's bloody trail, demonstrating that his will is strong enough to command even her.
Key relationships define Garcia's character. His bond with his maid, Roberta, is the most crucial; she has cared for him since he was young, and he sees past her violent past to the person she tries to be. In return, he inspires a fierce protective loyalty in her. His relationship with his other maid, Fabiola Iglesias, is one of mutual respect and familial care; she accompanies him as a friend and bodyguard. He also shares a significant connection with Rock, seeing him not as a hardened criminal but as someone who can understand his perspective and help him achieve his unorthodox goal. Rock, in turn, sees Garcia as someone worth saving from the city's corruption.
Garcia undergoes considerable development, transforming from a dependent child into a decisive young leader. Initially shown as a boy who cried into Roberta's chest at his father's funeral, he later displays the composure to negotiate with crime lords and the audacity to confront a rampaging assassin. His emotional strength grows immensely as he accepts that he must become an adult to handle his responsibilities. He moves from a place of helplessness to one of agency, actively shaping the outcome of the crisis rather than being a passive victim of it.
While Garcia is not a physical fighter like the other characters, his notable abilities lie in his intellect, emotional fortitude, and leadership. He is highly perceptive and capable of strategic planning, devising a complex psychological ploy to stop Roberta. His strongest asset is his unwavering resolve and the authority he commands as the head of the Lovelace family, which allows him to inspire absolute loyalty in those who serve him. He also has knowledge of his family's affairs and rare earth metals, demonstrating an education beyond his years.
