Description
Pierre Vieira is a supporting character in the anime Genesis of Aquarion. He comes from San Jose and was a star soccer player before being recruited as an Element, a human with special abilities chosen to pilot the Vector Machines for DEAVA in its fight against the Shadow Angels. He left behind a romantic relationship in order to join that fight, abandoning a woman named Esperanza, and the lingering feelings and guilt tied to that decision remain central to his background. In appearance, he is an adult with brown hair reaching nearly to his shoulders, usually kept up in a loose, bun-like style, and orange eyes.
In personality, Pierre is exceptionally energetic, with serotonin levels described as more than double those of any other Element. He is playful, restless, and constantly attempts to flirt with the female residents of DEAVA, using teasing and charm as a public persona. Beneath that lively exterior, however, he carries real emotional pain, and he is also one of the more perceptive members of the team, showing an ability to recognize the hidden attractions and fears of conflicted individuals such as Silvia and Apollo. He is deeply passionate in his convictions and can channel his emotions into his work as a pilot.
Pierre's motivations are closely tied to protecting the people he cares about, particularly his family, from the Shadow Angels. His determination to save his family has been shown to surface as fire-like energy during combat, at one point granting Aquarion a mastery of speed that allowed it to defeat the enemies Kumba and Nikumba. His unresolved feelings for Esperanza also drive part of his emotional arc. When he learns that she is about to marry someone else, he falls into a dangerous mental state and is temporarily forbidden from piloting, an event that forces him to confront the past he abandoned.
Within the story, Pierre functions as a regular supporting Element who takes part in many of DEAVA's battles. He typically pilots Vector Mars, and his soccer-based fighting style carries over directly to the mecha, most notably through his Fire Kick, an attack that combines his athletic instincts with his burning spirit and is especially suited to the fast, long-legged Aquarion Mars configuration. He also participates in other formations, including the Aquarion Soluna and an alternative Solar Aquarion setup, and can perform the Fire Fist technique together with Apollo.
In terms of notable abilities, Pierre's skills rest on his physical conditioning, his high energy levels, and his strength as an Element. He is capable of turning powerful emotions such as determination and resolve into combat energy, which makes him an effective pilot in high-pressure situations. His signature Fire Kick, rooted in his career as a soccer player, remains his most distinctive technique both on his own and when piloting Aquarion.
Over the course of the series, the carefree and flirtatious facade gives way to a more self-aware individual. The news of Esperanza's marriage exposes the vulnerability behind his confidence, and his recovery from that crisis shows his growth, as he learns to refocus his personal pain and history into his duty as a protector. His relationships with the other Elements, including his sharp observations of Apollo and Silvia, show a character who balances humor with genuine insight into those around him.
