TV-Series
Description
Chitose Nanbu is one of the main female characters in the anime Amaenaide yo!! Katsu!! and a trainee nun living at the Saienji Temple. She has red hair and is notably more physically developed than many of her peers, a trait that is occasionally a source of humor. Chitose represents the Human Realm in the Buddhist cosmology that the series uses as a framework for its characters and their spiritual powers.
In terms of personality, Chitose is best described as a classic tsundere. She has strong, undisclosed romantic feelings for the male lead, Ikkou Satonaka, but refuses to admit these feelings, even to herself. To mask her true emotions, she often behaves with a short temper, frequently scolding Ikkou and physically lashing out at him, especially when he acts perversely or when other girls show him attention. This behavior is most pronounced when she feels threatened by a rival. Despite her harsh exterior, she is generally kind and takes her training seriously, though her denial of her own feelings leads to much of her internal conflict.
Chitoses primary motivation is rooted in her unacknowledged affection for Ikkou and her determination to master her spiritual abilities. While she outwardly claims to simply be keeping Ikkou in line, her actions are often driven by jealousy and a desire for his attention. Her role in the story of Amaenaide yo!! Katsu!! is central. She acts as one of Ikkous primary companions and, along with the other nuns, helps him in exorcising evil spirits. Her dynamic undergoes a significant shift with the introduction of Kazuki Kazusano, a rival nun who openly and aggressively pursues Ikkou. This forces Chitose to confront her hidden feelings more directly, as she finds herself competing with Kazuki for Ikkous affection, leading to a strengthening of her tsundere traits. Key episodes show her challenging Kazuki or becoming frustrated when Kazuki attempts to seduce Ikkou.
Her key relationships are primarily defined by her interactions with Ikkou and her rivalry with Kazuki. Her relationship with Ikkou is a classic love-hate dynamic filled with misunderstandings and comedic violence, though it is strongly implied that the feelings between them are mutual. Her relationship with Kazuki is one of direct competition, as Kazukis open advances force Chitose to act on her otherwise suppressed jealousy. She also has close friendships with the other nuns at the temple, particularly Yuuko Atoda, who frequently teases her about her feelings and her figure.
Throughout the second season, Chitose shows subtle signs of development as she is forced to deal with the open challenge posed by Kazuki. While she never fully confesses her feelings, she becomes more proactive in asserting her place near Ikkou, moving beyond simply denying her emotions to actively trying to thwart her rivals plans. In terms of notable abilities, as the representative of the Human Realm, her spiritual powers are tied to this concept, though her most prominent traits remain her emotional stubbornness and her role in the groups dynamic. She is also shown to enjoy horror films, despite initially claiming to have no specific hobbies.
