TV-Series
Description
Mako is a 19-year-old young woman from Okayama prefecture who serves as the female member of the Nerima Daikon Brothers band. She speaks with the distinct Okayama dialect, which is part of the Kansai regional speech pattern. Mako styles herself as a former idol, though this claim is self-proclaimed and part of her inflated sense of self-importance. She is the cousin of Hideki, the enthusiastic leader of the group, and lives with him and Ichiro on the daikon farm in the Nerima ward of Tokyo. Her personality is defined by a strong materialistic streak and a taste for luxury. She skillfully spends Hideki's money on expensive items, most notably Dom Perignon champagne, and frequently indulges her desire for a lavish lifestyle. Despite her sometimes carefree and greedy nature, she is a core member of the trio and shares their dream of building a concert dome on their daikon field where they can perform to sold-out crowds. Her motivations are largely driven by this desire for wealth and comfort, but she also participates in the brothers' schemes to outwit various villains and swindlers, even if her primary interest is often the financial reward. In terms of relationships, the dynamic with Hideki is complicated. Hideki has a persistent romantic interest in her and repeatedly proposes marriage, but Mako consistently deflects these advances with a flimsy excuse about the Japanese constitution not allowing it. She does not reciprocate his feelings. Instead, Mako is attracted to Ichiro, the more stoic and handsome member of the group. This attraction is one-sided, as Ichiro does not return her affections and instead has a romantic interest in the police officer Yukika Karakuri. This creates a rivalry between Mako and Yukika, as they both compete for Ichiro's attention. Mako does not undergo significant dramatic character development over the course of the series, remaining consistently defined by her greed, her accent, and her romantic pursuits. However, she is a key part of the group's dynamic, providing a contrasting voice to Hideki's boisterousness and Ichiro's calm demeanor. Her notable ability lies in her talent for spending money and manipulating situations to serve her own desires, as well as her participation in the group's musical numbers, which are a central feature of the show's comedy. She is often depicted wearing revealing or fashionable outfits, such as a midriff-baring top, which aligns with her self-image as an idol.
