Movie
Description
Tae Shimura, older sister of Shinpachi and co-owner of the Koudoukan dojo specializing in Tendoumushin style, inherited significant debts alongside her brother after their father's death during their childhood. To sustain the dojo, she works as a cabaret hostess at Snack Smile, fiercely prioritizing her father's legacy and believing children need no justification to protect what their parents cherished. Her protective nature began early, shielding Shinpachi from bullies and defending Yagyuu Kyuubei from childhood tormentors, forging a deep bond. This bond intensified when Kyuubei lost an eye rescuing Tae from debt collectors, leading Tae to promise marriage as Kyuubei's "new left eye."

Recognized for her beauty, Tae has brown eyes and brown hair typically tied in a ponytail. She commonly wears a pink yukata with red floral patterns, an appearance that often causes adversaries to underestimate her combat skills. Despite self-acknowledging being "flat-chested," her demeanor blends a gentle smile with undercurrents of intimidation. She maintains this smile due to a promise to the dojo's former instructor Obi Hajime, masking her emotions; it often precedes violent outbursts. Her beauty makes her the primary attraction at Snack Smile.

Her personality presents contradictions: outwardly sweet-natured as a hostess yet prone to explosive anger and violence, especially toward stalker-like behavior frequently directed at Kondou Isao. She employs vulgar language, prompting Shinpachi to remind her of unladylike speech. A core trait is her fierce protectiveness of family and friends, often suppressing her own pain behind a smile to appear strong—a tendency Shinpachi criticizes as emotionally isolating. She demonstrates cunning and two-faced tendencies, feigning kindness to manipulate rivals or unsuspecting individuals like Katsuo, whom she entrapped using pirated merchandise. Self-interest surfaces in her negative reactions to low popularity poll rankings, contemplating eliminating higher-ranked characters. She harbors a fear of monsters, transforming into destructive rage when triggered, demolishing a skeleton model and injuring companions during a test of courage.

Culinary incompetence defines her; her signature "dark matter" fried eggs caused Shinpachi’s eyesight deterioration, induced amnesia in Gintoki and Kondou, and gave Yagyuu Binboksai diarrhea. Most foods she prepares burn inexplicably, though a non-canon instance showed successful konjac jelly. She enjoys Bargain Dash ice cream and is a devoted fan of the band B'z.

In combat, Tae wields a naginata with proficiency, executing one-armed swings and devastating cuts. Her exceptional hand-to-hand prowess and physical strength allow her to crater walls with drop kicks, knockout adversaries with single punches, and inflict concussions even with toy hammers. Despite this, she rarely engages in large-scale battles, limiting most violence to disciplining acquaintances like Kondou or Gintoki. Her strength traces back to shielding Shinpachi and Kyuubei from bullies. She later ascended as one of the Four Devas of Kabukichō following retirements and arrests of predecessors, earning the title "Queen of the Kabuki District."

Key relationships define her: she serves as a maternal figure to Shinpachi, though she physically reprimands him for perceived failings. Kondou’s obsessive stalking invites constant retaliation, yet he remains significant due to his willingness to risk his life for her. With Gintoki, interactions blend camaraderie and conflict; she beats him for involving Shinpachi in trouble but shares mutual trust during crises. Kagura, Kyuubei, Katsura, and Tsukuyo notably avoid her violent tendencies, with Kagura and Tae sharing camaraderie. Her role in narrative conclusions, including *The Final*, reflects her status as a pillar of Kabukichō’s community, often seen supporting characters at gatherings like Snack Smile during epilogue sequences.
