Akihiko Ohta is the owner of Yaoguro, a grocery store located next to the Onimaru family's ramen shop in the Hanami Town Shopping District. He is a young adult male who often spends his free time at the ramen shop, frequently in the company of Miki's mother.

In a cast of highly eccentric and violent characters, Akihiko largely serves as the voice of reason and the straight man, observing the chaos around him with a sense of bemusement and resignation. He accepts his friends' bizarre behavior as simply part of who they are. However, this sensible exterior masks a deeply obsessive and fanatical side that emerges in relation to his primary interest: the superhero franchise Super Space Battle Team Star Rangers, a clear parody of sentai shows like Power Rangers. His devotion to this series is all-consuming, and he owns a vast collection of related merchandise. When Star Rangers is involved, his rationality vanishes, and he can become just as disruptive as any other character, even experiencing intense inner conflicts over story developments, such as his admiration for the villain Hell's Bunny.

His role in the story is that of a supporting character and a source of comedic relief, often providing commentary on the absurd situations that unfold. He is an old friend of Kankuro Nishiyama, another main character. While he is frequently the target of random acts of physical comedy and slapstick violence, he also demonstrates unexpected skills, being a notably talented graffiti artist. A glimpse into his past reveals that he was often bullied as a child, once being forced to confess his feelings to a girl he did not like. There is little to no indication of significant character development over the course of the series, as his personality and role remain largely consistent.
