Description
Kyohei Takano is one of the central male characters in the story, a high school student who lives in a lavish mansion alongside three fellow attractive young men under an unusual arrangement. Among the four residents, he stands out as the most popular and physically striking, frequently drawing extreme reactions from those around him. He is tall with short blonde hair and red eyes, and his appearance alone often causes chaos wherever he goes.
His personality is sharp and confrontational. Kyohei tends to say exactly what is on his mind with little regard for the consequences, which makes him come across as blunt, selfish, and at times demanding. He is quick-tempered and rash, often acting impulsively in ways that create trouble for himself and others. He is also a formidable fighter, widely regarded as dangerous in a physical confrontation. Despite his popularity, he loathes the constant attention his looks bring and struggles with a poor self-image. At various points he hints that he despises his own appearance and wishes he could be ordinary, a trait that mirrors the heroine’s own complex relationship with her outward presentation. He has a playful, prankish side that emerges most clearly in the presence of Sunako, the girl he is tasked with transforming, and he is notably motivated by food, especially the dishes Sunako prepares.
Kyohei’s home life was far from ideal. His extraordinary looks placed a severe strain on his family; his mother, unable to cope with the obsessive attention her son attracted, encouraged him to leave home to preserve her own sanity and later regretted the decision but could not bring herself to tell him when they met again. His parents and older brother are entirely normal in appearance, making Kyohei’s beauty an isolating anomaly. He also endured sexual harassment at multiple jobs from both male and female bosses, and in the anime he is frequently fired because overzealous fans destroy his workplaces. Before he warmed to his current roommates, he was stalked by hundreds of girls and adopted an indifferent, walled-off stance; his outlook began to shift only after an incident in which another boy was nearly injured trying to defend him.
Within the mansion, Kyohei is one of the four young men given the mission of molding Sunako Nakahara into a graceful lady in exchange for free rent. He and Sunako clash constantly, their interactions a loud, combative back-and-forth that sets the tone for much of the series. He is the least romantically inclined of the group, yet he is consistently paired with Sunako as a potential couple, a dynamic that becomes increasingly complex. Sunako is initially repelled by his appearance and treats his abrasive personality at face value, but she is surprised to learn about his ordinary family and the pain behind his beauty. Over time, the two develop a confusing bond: Kyohei is slow to trust, but he gradually allows Sunako into his personal world and even participates in her macabre hobbies. His feelings for her remain hazy; in a later volume he impulsively kisses her, then dismisses the act as a moment of confusion.
His relationships with the other housemates evolve significantly. At first he is standoffish, but he eventually accepts Takenaga, Ranmaru, and Yuki as genuine friends, and his protective side emerges when they are threatened. The landlady’s scheme to turn Sunako into a lady repeatedly forces him into awkward situations, yet he complies, albeit often motivated by the promise of reduced rent or good food. His bond with his mother remains strained and unresolved, though it provides a window into the root of his defensive personality.
Kyohei’s development is marked by a slow shift away from selfishness and isolation. He moves from being openly indifferent and hostile to showing genuine care for those around him, even when he masks it with gruffness. He still struggles with self-worth, once leaving the mansion because he believed his presence was unwanted, but he returns and continues to grow closer to his makeshift family. His notable ability is his exceptional fighting skill, which makes him both physically capable and intimidating; this strength is often played for comedic effect but also serves as a means of protection for those he has come to care about.
