Description
Gel Sadra is a central figure in the second season of the Gatchaman Crowds narrative, arriving on Earth as a peaceful alien with a unique and disarming nature. The character first appears in a spherical, cloud-like form before taking on a humanoid appearance, initially that of a young, androgynous child with light blue hair and red skin. Later, upon deciding to run for political office, Gel Sadra adopts the form of a young man. This being has a pure and innocent personality, often smiling in a way that others find angelic. Gel Sadra harbors a deep-seated dislike for violence, conflict, and quarrels, seeking instead a state of unity and harmony among all people.

The primary motivation for Gel Sadra is a sincere, albeit naive, desire to make everyone "become one" and to eliminate discord. This goal is pursued not through force or malice, but through an earnest belief that collective agreement and the erasure of conflicting opinions are the paths to peace. Gel Sadra's actions are always presented as well-intentioned, stemming from a fundamental confusion about why people cannot simply agree and be happy together. This alien perspective on human nature, which lacks an understanding of the value of individual dissent or complex social context, drives the character's role in the story as a catalyst for a major social and political upheaval.

In the narrative, Gel Sadra's role evolves from a curious visitor to a transformative political figure. Using the ability to manifest people's inner feelings as visible, cartoon-like speech bubbles above their heads, Gel Sadra demonstrates an intuition for public sentiment. Upon reading the widespread desire for the abolition of the CROWDS technology, Gel Sadra declares a campaign for Prime Minister with that as the central pledge. After winning the election by a vast margin, the character implements radical policies, such as dismissing the entire cabinet and governing through direct smartphone polls, which introduces a "Leave it to Sadra" option. This button allows citizens to abdicate their decision-making responsibility. This proves incredibly popular, leading to a state where the public blindly trusts Gel Sadra's judgment, effectively ceasing to think for themselves. This situation inadvertently gives rise to the Kuu-sama, strange creatures that emerge from the speech bubbles and begin absorbing people into a collective consciousness, acting as a physical manifestation of the desire for unity.

Key relationships define Gel Sadra's journey. The most significant bond is with Tsubasa Misudachi, a new Gatchaman who becomes Gel Sadra's first and most loyal friend, often calling the alien her "cute little brother". Tsubasa fervently believes in and supports Gel Sadra's vision of unity, acting as a defender and companion throughout the character's political rise. In contrast, the protagonist Hajime Ichinose serves as a philosophical foil. Hajime is one of the few individuals who remains unaffected by Gel Sadra's ability, her thoughts manifesting as a gray, emotionless speech bubble. She gently challenges Gel Sadra, stating that a world where everyone agrees "isn't sparkly," planting a seed of doubt about the character's methods. Other Gatchaman members, such as Joe, view Gel Sadra as a dangerous tyrant, however well-meaning, and actively work to oppose the character's growing influence.

Gel Sadra undergoes significant development, transforming from a passive reflector of public opinion into an individual with a personal will. At first, the character is content to absorb the thoughts and desires of the masses, acting as a perfect mirror. However, as the Kuu-sama become more violently oppressive and public opinion turns against Gel Sadra, the character experiences physical pain and confusion, unable to understand why the desire for unity is causing harm. The turning point occurs when Hajime forces Gel Sadra to confront a simple question: what does the character itself want? After a period of intense introspection, Gel Sadra vomits out all the absorbed opinions and, for the first time, produces a personal thought bubble expressing a genuine, individual desire to see Tsubasa again. This act of finding a personal truth, separate from the collective will, completes the character's arc from a being without a self to one with a unique identity.

Notable abilities include shapeshifting between a child-like and adult form. The signature power is the generation of wind and the creation of telepathic speech bubbles that reveal the unspoken emotions of those nearby. These bubbles can be affected by Gel Sadra's own state, and the Kuu-sama creatures are born from their proliferation. Despite a peaceful nature, Gel Sadra is also shown to be a formidable fighter, capable of overwhelming the experienced Gatchaman Joe in combat when provoked, revealing an innate and powerful combat sense.
