TV-Series
Description
Junko Asagiri is a recurring character known as the Vixen of the Desert, a cunning mercenary operating in the Great Kanto Desert. Physically, she is a tall, fair-skinned young woman with long purple hair and green eyes. Her most frequently noted physical characteristic is her curvaceous figure, which she uses strategically in her interactions with others, especially men. Her standard attire is a tan, form-fitting desert suit, custom-made from Uzumaki Chemicals and equipped with Fisheye technology. The suit's helmet includes practical features such as a radio, noise sensor, binoculars, a night vision system, and heat detection, though it is designed primarily for survival in the harsh environment rather than direct combat.
Very little is known about Junko's background or family, as she operates independently as a traveling mercenary. Her personality is defined by her cunning, manipulative nature, and a deep-seated selfishness. She is consistently disloyal, frequently switching allegiances or betraying partners when it serves her best interest. Junko is acutely aware of her beauty and physical appeal, openly flaunting it and expressing confusion or irritation when someone, like the protagonist Kanta, seems immune to her charms. This combination of vanity and pragmatism makes her a formidable operator in the wasteland, as she is willing to use any tool at her disposal to achieve her goals.
Junko's primary motivation is financial gain and personal survival, with little regard for the means used to achieve them. Her role in the story is often that of a catalyst or instigator, frequently hiring other mercenaries, including the Desert Punk himself, to do dangerous work on her behalf. From her first appearance, she manipulates Kanta into confronting the Kawazu Clan by pretending to be a damsel in distress, while her true intention is to retrieve a valuable necklace. In another major scheme, she double-crosses two rival brothers by auctioning off a valuable key, then hires both the Desert Punk and the Machine Gun Brothers to protect her from one of the brothers, who pursues her in an indestructible tank. She secures their compliance by tempting them with high pay and trapping them with legally signed contracts before revealing the true danger of their mission.
Junko's key relationship is with Kanta Mizuno, the Desert Punk. She consistently outsmarts him by exploiting his greed and his weakness for women, often leaving him with less reward than he anticipated. Despite her constant betrayals, she continues to return to him for jobs, knowing his skills are useful. She also has a contentious relationship with Kanta's apprentice, Kosuna, who despises Junko for her manipulative nature and her physical assets, seeing her as a fierce rival for Kanta's attention and a negative influence. Another significant relationship is with Seiji Tanigawa, an engineer whose heart she breaks and whose secrets she steals, leading him to become a vengeful, persistent stalker who chases her across the desert. Later in the story, Junko associates with a man named Kaoru Kaizuka, working for him as an assistant while he keeps a wary eye on her, suggesting that even her allies are uncertain of her loyalty.
Throughout her appearances, Junko shows little to no character development, remaining a static figure of selfishness and cunning. She does, however, serve as a mirror to the central theme of the series, which frequently portrays a world of betrayals where loyalty is a rare and often foolish commodity. Despite her lack of moral growth, she demonstrates a high degree of competence and cleverness that makes her a true rival to the protagonist.
In terms of abilities, Junko is highly skilled with a variety of weaponry, carrying a sizable personal arsenal. Her standard equipment includes a small-caliber Modelo Expresso pistol, an ARWEN 37 less-lethal launcher, and an FN P90 submachine gun. She is also proficient with knives, carrying a large Tiger Shark knife, throwing knives, and a small pocket knife. Her intelligence and tactical thinking are her greatest weapons, allowing her to create complex plans and manipulate skilled mercenaries into doing her bidding, making her just as dangerous as any gunfighter in the desert.
