Description
Bocca Serenade is the central protagonist of his narrative, a teenage boy whose journey forms the core of the story. Physically, he is characterized by his red eyes and short purple hair, and he is typically seen wearing a uniform and cape. His defining trait is a powerful, unwavering desire to become a Melos Warrior, a heroic figure from a nearly forgotten past who fights against the monsters that secretly rule the world. Before his transformation, Bocca is an unhappy and rebellious high school student who performs poorly in his studies and is frequently disliked by his teachers. His dissatisfaction with the status quo leads him to befriend an old man named Tsunagi, a local outcast whom others consider a myth, but who is, in reality, a scientist who once aided the warriors. His life is irrevocably changed when he meets a girl named Sayoko, who is searching for a warrior, and then witnesses a fierce battle between the monster Hor and an existing Melos Warrior named Kurofune Ballad. This event awakens the latent potential within Bocca, and he decides to leave behind his family and former life to pursue Kurofune and embark on his own path as a warrior. His motivation is a pure, adventurous drive to fight against the monsters and the humans who have submitted to them, striving to correct the wrongs he sees in the world.
Throughout his journey, Bocca develops several key relationships. His bond with Sayoko grows from a shared mission into a romantic relationship as they travel together. Kurofune serves as the initial catalyst and an ideal to follow, while Tsunagi provides crucial support, eventually giving Bocca his own Ivermachine, a mechanized steed called Elan Vital.
