Description
Garuru is a Keronian male and a high-ranking soldier who serves as the leader of the elite Garuru Platoon. He holds the rank of First Lieutenant and is distinguished by his indigo-colored body, a black helmet, and a unique symbol on his chest: a red downward-pointing triangle with a vertical line through its center. Unlike many other Keronians, his belt is a tool for power rather than a sentimental item, contrasting with his brother Giroro who uses his to remember fallen comrades.
In terms of personality, Garuru is portrayed as a consummate professional and an S-rank military operative. His demeanor is typically serious and cold, befitting his elite status and reputation. He is known to be ruthless in the execution of his missions, once taking command of the Space Invasion Force and stripping Keroro of his rank. However, his characterization has notable differences across adaptations; in the original manga, Garuru possesses a much friendlier and more supportive presence, particularly in his interactions with his younger brother.
Garuru's primary motivation stems from duty. He leads his platoon to Earth after learning that the Keroro Platoon has made no progress on their invasion mission and that his brother is not even in command. His actions are driven by a desire to complete the mission objective, which sometimes involves harsh measures, such as attempting to revert Keroro to a tadpole form. Despite his personal connection to Giroro, Garuru is willing to go to extreme lengths, including confronting his own sibling, to fulfill his orders.
Within the story, Garuru serves as a significant antagonist who challenges both the Keroro Platoon and the Hinata family. Upon arriving on Earth, he directly confronts his brother Giroro, defeating him in a one-on-one sniper duel. He temporarily usurps command of the invasion effort, creating a major crisis for the main characters. His presence forces the platoon to unite and overcome a superior foe through friendship and cooperation, which ultimately leads to his defeat in a rematch against Giroro.
The most significant relationship in Garuru's life is with his younger brother, Giroro. As the older sibling, he is a constant point of comparison and an obstacle that Giroro must strive to overcome. Their dynamic is central to his character arc. He also leads the Garuru Platoon, which includes members named Taruru, Tororo, Zoruru, and Pururu, with Pururu specifically noted as his battle partner. He interacts directly with Sergeant Keroro as a superior officer who takes command and questions his leadership of the mission.
Garuru is a master of long-range combat, specializing as a sniper. He is frequently seen wielding a Psycho GLL Sniper Rifle, a powerful laser weapon that is several times larger than he is. His arsenal also includes a standard laser sniper rifle, a large bazooka, a shield for defense, and square-shaped missiles. His proficiency with these weapons and his tactical acumen make him a formidable opponent who initially outmatches even the combat-specialist Giroro.
