Description
Lunch is a young woman who appears in the second Dragon Ball film, Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle. She is defined by a unique condition: whenever she sneezes, her entire personality and appearance change between two distinct selves. One form has blue hair and is sweet, gentle, and kind-hearted. The other form has blonde hair and is aggressive, reckless, and enjoys committing crimes. Neither personality retains memories of the other’s actions.
In the film, Lunch learns about the legendary Sleeping Princess, a giant jewel hidden in the Devil’s Hand castle. Her blonde, criminal personality sets out to steal it for herself. She follows Goku and Krillin into the castle, riding a motorcycle and using a machine gun to blast through ogres. After grabbing the jewel, she sneezes during her escape, which triggers the switch to her blue-haired self. The good Lunch is disoriented and has no idea what she was doing, allowing Goku to reclaim the jewel. Later, when Goku transforms into a Great Ape under the full moon, he grabs Lunch and attempts to eat her, but she is rescued when Yamcha and Krillin cut off Goku’s tail.
After the castle collapses and the crisis ends, Goku and Krillin bring Lunch back to Master Roshi. Roshi, believing the boys succeeded in retrieving a “sleeping princess” (meaning Lunch herself), accepts them as students. Lunch stays at Kame House, and the film closes with her good self apologizing after another sneeze turns her bad and she chases the group with her gun.
Lunch’s motivation in the story is purely self-serving: her blonde side wants the valuable jewel. She acts as an independent obstacle for the main characters, neither an ally nor a true villain. Her dual personality creates comic mishaps and inadvertently helps the group at times. Her key relationship in the film is with Goku and Krillin, who first encounter her as a thief and later bring her home. She has no personal development within the movie—her condition remains unchanged, and she becomes part of the household simply by circumstance. Her only notable ability is the sneeze-triggered transformation, along with the practical skills of her blonde self, such as driving a motorcycle and using firearms.
