Description
Kintaro Tooyama is a member of the Q Class at the Dan Detective School (DDS) and is the oldest among his peers, being a third-year high school student. He hails from a distinguished lineage as a descendant of the famous Toyama family, known for their service as public inspectors. However, despite his prestigious family background, he lives alone and supports himself through physical labor, having run away from home as an act of rebellion against his father, who holds a high-ranking position in the police force. He has three older sisters who are all police officials.

Kintaro possesses extraordinary physical capabilities and senses. He has superhuman motor skills, a visual acuity of 4.0, an exceptional sense of smell, and remarkable physical strength and stamina, allowing him to carry a person on his back while running for tens of kilometers through mountainous terrain. He holds high-ranking dan levels in multiple martial arts, including kendo, judo, and karate, and is trained in the ancient martial arts of his family's Toyama-ryu style. His physical prowess is complemented by experience working at construction sites, where he learned to operate heavy machinery such as electric shovels. Within the Q Class, he functions as the primary physical enforcer, often serving as a bodyguard for other members and handling the apprehension of criminals.

In terms of personality, Kintaro has a goofy, simple, and bright disposition, frequently acting as the mood maker for his group. His tough and instinct-driven nature sometimes leads him to mock more technologically focused approaches to detective work, as he prefers to rely on his gut feelings. Despite his cheerful exterior, he harbors a complex about his lack of reasoning skills, which are the lowest among the Q Class members. He has never solved a case or cracked a password on his own, and supplementary comics reveal that he often has nightmares about being the only one expelled from DDS. This insecurity has occasionally manifested as a lack of empathy; in certain cases, he has shown difficulty understanding the pitiable circumstances of criminals or those seeking revenge through murder.

Kintaro's motivations stem from a desire to prove himself and overcome his perceived limitations in deductive reasoning. While he relies on classmates like Kazuma Narusawa for analytical advice, he compensates by using his own determination and guts to gather physical evidence. His family relationships also play a significant role in his character. His father, who is acquainted with the renowned detective Morihiko Dan, has a habit of disparaging Kintaro while seeking his opinion, creating a strained dynamic that other characters find embarrassing to witness. Away from the academy, he has two childhood friends: Chikamatsu Sumire, a beautiful girl who later becomes his romantic interest, and Kiryuukon, a genius who has been pretending to be an idiot since the fifth grade after a traumatic incident involving his father nearly being poisoned.

Throughout the story, Kintaro develops gradually, particularly in the premium episodes set after the final chapter. His relationship with Sumire Chikamatsu evolves into a romantic one, though he struggles with expressing his affection due to inexperience. His role as the team's physical powerhouse remains consistent, but he continues to work on his investigative abilities, using his instincts and physical senses to complement the logical deductions of his partners rather than attempting to match them in pure reasoning.
