Darren Pleavin

Description
Darren Pleavin is an English-language voice actor known for his extensive work in the dubbing of anime series and films, primarily for the Animax Asia network. With a career spanning the late 1990s and 2000s, he provided voices for numerous leading and supporting characters in some of the most popular anime titles broadcast in Asia. Beyond his voice acting work, he is also known to have worked as an electrician.

Pleavin's voice acting portfolio is dominated by roles produced for Animax's English dubs, which were aired across Southeast Asia and South Asia. He frequently provided voices for male protagonists and prominent characters. One of his most notable roles is as the titular protagonist, InuYasha, in the Animax English dub of the long-running series InuYasha. He also voiced Yusuke Urameshi in Yu Yu Hakusho: Ghost Files and Syaoran in Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE. In the series Emma: A Victorian Romance and its second season, Emma: A Victorian Romance Season Two, Pleavin played the role of the male lead, William Jones, a kind-hearted gentleman from a wealthy family who falls in love with a maid.

His other significant anime credits include the lead role of Kiba in Wolf's Rain, Togusa in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Gin in the film Tokyo Godfathers, Ginji Amano in Getbackers, and Judau Ashta in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. He also took on multiple roles in series such as Cardcaptor Sakura, where he voiced Clow Reed, Keroberos, and Touya Kinomoto, and Case Closed, where he voiced both Shinichi Kudo and Heizo Hattori. Further demonstrating his range, he provided the voice for Ranma Saotome (the male form) in Ranma ½ and Ataru's father in Urusei Yatsura for Animax dubs.

Pleavin's work was characterized by recurring collaborations with the production houses behind the Animax English dubs. This consistency saw him cast alongside other regular voice actors for the network, such as Andrea Kwan and Claudia Thompson, who frequently appeared in the same series, including Emma: A Victorian Romance. While primarily known for anime, his credits also extended to English dubs of live-action Asian films and other media. He provided voiceover for characters in several Godzilla films, including Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, and Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. He also voiced the character Cyclops in the animated short film X-Men: Dark Tide.

A notable achievement in Pleavin's career is his contribution to bringing many iconic Japanese anime characters to English-speaking audiences in Asia during a formative era for the medium. His body of work, encompassing lead roles in widely recognized series such as InuYasha, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Wolf's Rain, represents a significant legacy within the context of regional anime dubbing. His performance in the critically acclaimed film Tokyo Godfathers also stands out as a highlight in his filmography.
