Description
Captain Faye Xin Lu is a fictional character from the anime Gravion Zwei. She holds the rank of captain within the Earth Federation Alliance (EFA) military, where she serves as the leader and ace pilot of the G-Soldiers squadron, a team operating the mass-produced Gravion units known as Gran Troopers. A teenager in her late teens, Faye is a young woman of strong will and discipline, deeply committed to her duties as a military officer.
Her background is intrinsically linked to the story's core conflict. As a child, Faye was an orphan raised in an orphanage sponsored by the enigmatic benefactor Sandman. It was there that she first met Toga Tenkuji, acting as a protective older sister figure who would often defend him from bullies. During this time, Faye trained under Sandman and developed a deep, almost paternal affection for him. Her dedication led to her being the initial candidate selected for training to pilot the super robot Gran Kaiser, as her G-Factor, a measure of compatibility with Gravion technology, was comparable to or even higher than Toga's.
However, Sandman made a last-minute decision to choose Toga as the pilot instead. Feeling abandoned and betrayed by the two people she trusted most, a deep-seated bitterness took root within Faye. This event became the primary driver of her motivations. Leaving Sandman's side, she enrolled in a special military training academy to hone her skills, driven by a powerful need to prove her worth and surpass Toga and Sandman, showing them that their decision was a mistake. She is serious and focused on her duty, but a lingering sense of jealousy towards Toga can cloud her judgment, and she possesses a hidden vulnerability stemming from a childhood trauma that has instilled a compulsive need for cleanliness.
In the story, Faye initially serves as a rival. Her role involves commanding her G-Soldier team in battle against the alien threat known as Zeravire, all while nursing her personal grudge. Her jealousy leads her to attempt to outperform Toga at every opportunity and, on one occasion, even take advantage of his fragile mental state. A turning point occurs when her unit is saved by the super robot Sol Gravion, which forces her to reconsider her actions and ultimately let go of her long-held resentment. From that point on, she becomes a valuable and trusted ally in the final battles.
Her key relationships define her character arc. With Toga Tenkuji, she transitions from a protective childhood friend to a jealous rival, and finally to a reliable comrade. Her relationship with Sandman is similarly complex, moving from deep respect and familial love to feelings of betrayal and back to a reconciliation where she accepts his affection for her once more. She shares a strong bond with her subordinate pilots, Alex Smith, Jose, Ivan, and Hans. Notably, despite her higher rank, she greatly admires and looks up to Mizuki Tachibana, referring to her as Big Sister.
Faye is a highly capable pilot. She possesses excellent agility and quick thinking that rivals the protagonist Toga. In combat, she pilots Grantrooper Unit 1. Her unit is armed with a weapon called the Graviton Rang, which is based on God Gravions Graviton Crescent attack. For a more powerful strike, her unit can also draw energy from the other four Gran Trooper units to activate the Graviton Lightning Detonator, an ability based on the Graviton Arc. Her defensive capabilities are notably high, making her an excellent choice for protective support in battle.
