Description
The character known on Earth as Klein Sandman was originally an alien scientist from the ecologically devastated planet of Llambias. His original name, Jeke Erickmaier, is also romanized in various materials as Zieg Zeravire or Sieg Erikmeyer. He was the husband of Lufira Zeravire and brother-in-law to the antagonist Hugi Zeravire. Seeking to save his homeworld from environmental collapse and prevent an exodus war with the neighboring world of Selias, Sandman created the Genesis Machine Gran Sigma. Hugi, however, built the Genocidron System, an automated extermination network meant for the Selians. When Sandman intervened, a struggle destroyed the system's control device, causing the Genocidron to indiscriminately ravage both Llambias and Selias. Fleeing this catastrophe with his future aide Raven, he arrived on Earth and adopted the identity of an 18th-century aristocrat, Klein Sandman. To ensure he had the time to prepare for the inevitable pursuit of the threat he helped unleash, he genetically enhanced his G-Factor, granting himself immortality and eternal youth.

Sandman presents himself as a calm, calculating, and enigmatic billionaire. He rarely expresses overt emotion and deliberately keeps his extraordinary origins and the true nature of the Zeravire conflict a closely guarded secret. His core motivation is the defense of Earth, driven by a deep-seated sense of responsibility and guilt over the destruction of his original home. He seeks to atone for his past failures by ensuring humanity does not meet the same fate.

In the story, Sandman is the founder and supreme commander of the Earthgertz organization. Operating from the colossal Saint-Germain Castle, he built the Gran Divas, the Gran Kaiser, and the combining super robot Gravion using technology far ahead of contemporary Earth standards. By the events of Gravion Zwei, he takes a more direct combat role, personally piloting the Gran Sigma alongside his young team.

His relationships are central to his character arc. He acts as a mentor and father figure to Touga Tenkuuji, whom he raised from childhood to be the pilot of the Gran Kaiser. He maintains a complex paternal bond with his daughter Leele Zeravire, whose existence he only discovered when she landed on Earth. His relationship with his pilots, especially the initially rebellious Eiji Shigure, gradually deepens as his secrets are revealed, transforming him from a distant commander into a trusted leader. His most trusted confidante is Raven, the administrator of his castle whom he rescued from the ruins of his former life.

The narrative of Gravion Zwei heavily focuses on uncovering Sandman's past. He develops from a mysterious and untouchable benefactor into a more vulnerable and sincere figure. He ultimately commits fully to his found family and opens up to the pilots he commands, allowing a genuine bond to form between them.

Sandman's abilities are extraordinary. His genius intellect in science and technology allowed him to create his advanced mecha and biological enhancements. He possesses an exceptionally high G-Factor, the genetic trait he himself defined, enabling him to withstand the gravitational forces required to pilot his machines. His engineered immortality has allowed him to prepare for the Zeravire conflict over centuries, maintaining his youthful appearance and sharp mind.
