Description
Numaios is a supporting character in the anime series Ulysses 31. He is a Zotrian teenager and the older brother of Thais, who is also known as Yumi in some versions. Numaios and his sister were among the children enslaved by the Cyclops and were rescued by Ulysses at the beginning of the series. After the rescue, Numaios fell victim to the curse placed by Zeus on Ulysses and his crew: he was placed in a state of suspended animation, frozen in a floating, unconscious state aboard the Odyssey along with the rest of the crew. For the majority of the series, Numaios remains in this condition, unable to interact with the main characters. His presence serves as a constant reminder of the curse and as a strong personal motivation for his sister Yumi, who is deeply devoted to finding a way to revive him. On the rare occasions when he is temporarily awakened, such as through the influence of a moon from the Zotra homeworld, Numaios is depicted as gentle, trustworthy, and loyal. He shares the physical traits of the Zotrian race: light blue skin, snow-white hair, pointed ears, and slanted eyes with cat-like vertical pupils. His personality is calm and kind, and he is a loyal friend to Ulysses and his companions. Numaios does not possess any special combat abilities; his primary role is narrative, as a catalyst for Yumi's emotional journey and as a symbol of the crew's frozen state. His development is largely passive, as he remains suspended for almost the entire series, but his eventual revival is a goal that drives the quest.
