TV-Series
Description
Princess Ana Medaiyu is the youngest daughter of Duke Medaiyu, the ruler installed by the London IMA over the Siberian Domepolis of Wulgusk. At the start of the story she lives a sheltered existence as a shut-in within her family's castle, with little human contact beyond her tutor Lioubov Smettana, and it is this isolation that fuels her desire to see the outside world and meet people beyond her small circle.
Her personality combines childlike innocence with striking precociousness. Though still very young, she speaks and reasons in ways that can seem older than her years, and she displays a confident, curious, and good-humored temperament. She is intelligent and quick-witted, able to deliver a calm and logically forceful rebuke even to a hardened officer like Asuham Boone, leaving him without a response. Her noble upbringing gives her a natural composure and an awareness of how she is perceived, yet she is not haughty; she is playful and clearly enjoys the company and adventures of those around her.
Ana's central motivation is a desire for freedom and new experience. When the Exodus coordinator Gain Bijou and the young pilot Gainer Sanga infiltrate her family's castle to steal the Overman King Gainer, Ana agrees to go with them, persuaded in part by Gain's promise of taking her to a festival. She thus becomes what is officially called a hostage, but the arrangement is entirely voluntary on her part. She genuinely supports the Yapan Exodus and wishes to leave the confined life of the Domepolis behind.
Within the story, Ana serves as the group's mascot and a kind of unofficial good-luck presence. Although she is technically a prisoner, she is never treated as one, and she is free to wander the moving city units of the Exodus convoy. Her standing is acknowledged by the expedition's leadership, the so-called Five Wise Men, with whom she interacts almost as an equal despite the age gap. Her cheerful presence during the difficult journey helps sustain morale, and she takes part in the life of the convoy with evident enjoyment even while facing constant danger.
Her key relationships include her father Duke Medaiyu, the dome's aristocratic ruler, from whom she is separated when the Exodus begins; her tutor Lioubov Smettana, who had been almost her only companion during her sheltered childhood; and the Exodus leaders and pilots, especially Gain and Gainer, who carried her away and with whom she travels. She also keeps a small retinue of three unusually intelligent pet squirrels that obey her commands and accompany her throughout the journey.
Over the course of the series, Ana develops from a sheltered child into a more worldly and self-assured participant in the great migration. She adapts readily to life on the road, remains composed in the face of attacks and setbacks, and shows a moral clarity that reminds others of what is at stake. She does not pilot machines or fight, but her notable abilities lie in her sharp observation, her precocious eloquence in confronting wrongdoers, and her command over her trained squirrels, which she uses to help her friends in small but meaningful ways. By the end of the journey she stands as a symbol of the new life the Exodus makes possible, having chosen her own path rather than accepting the role assigned to her by birth.
