TV-Series
Description
Oryou, whose real name is Takeko Nogami, is a second-year student at Ooarai Girls Academy and a supporting character in the Girls und Panzer story. She serves as the driver of the StuG III assault gun used by Hippo Team, a crew made up of history enthusiasts. Her nickname comes from Narasaki Ryō, the wife of the Bakumatsu-period samurai Sakamoto Ryōma, and she is the only member of Hippo Team whose nickname is taken from a woman. This choice of nickname is fitting because Oryou is well known for her expertise on the history of the Bakumatsu period, the turbulent final years of the Edo era in Japan.
Oryou has blue-black hair, wears under-rim glasses, and is small in stature. Although her hairstyle is somewhat boyish and messy, she is described as the most feminine member of Hippo Team. Her personality is calm and composed, and her clothing, personal preferences, and mannerisms all reflect a deep attachment to Japanese history and tradition. Her admiration for Sakamoto Ryōma is especially pronounced, and it shows in her distinctive way of speaking: she habitually ends her sentences with the phrase "zeyo," a mannerism associated with the historical figure she admires.
Her motivations are rooted in this passion for history. Her respect for Sakamoto Ryōma shapes her identity, and her place in Hippo Team stems from sharing that enthusiasm with her fellow crew members. In the story, her main contribution comes during tankery battles, where she handles the driving of the StuG III. Because the vehicle is primarily used for ambush rather than mobile warfare, the driver's role is less conspicuous, and Oryou tends to have a quieter presence than the other members of her team. Still, she is a steady and reliable part of the crew, using her position to support the group's tactics during engagements.
Her notable abilities include her deep historical knowledge and her competence as the vehicle's driver. As a supporting character, she receives limited development, but she remains consistent in character throughout the series: a calm, knowledgeable, and devoted student whose love of the Bakumatsu era defines her appearance, speech, and role within Ooarai's tankery team.
