TV-Series
Description
Aya Ōno is a first-year student at Ōarai Girls Academy and a supporting character within the sensha-dō team. She serves as the gunner of the 37mm cannon on the Rabbit Team's M3 Lee tank. Standing at 150 centimeters tall, Aya is recognizable by her dirty blonde hair, which she styles into long twin ponytails tied with black cords, and her brown eyes. Her most distinctive feature is her pair of wide, round, oval-framed glasses, which are a recurring visual element of her character.

In terms of personality, Aya is an energetic, cheerful, and optimistic individual who often acts as a mood setter and the heart of her team. She is known for her impulsive and exuberant nature, particularly in combat, where she is prone to firing her gun at every available opportunity. Her enthusiastic and sometimes brash approach is often encapsulated by her spirited battle cry. Outside of battle, Aya is very fond of her cell phone and the internet, where she is known to have many online male friends and uses the handle ayaya to gather information. Despite her outward confidence, she can experience some insecurity because her intense passion for sensha-dō tends to intimidate her male peers.

Aya lives in the school dormitory and comes from Kasama in Ibaraki Prefecture, living with her parents and an older brother. Her birthday is June 15, making her a Gemini, and her blood type is B. She enjoys home economics as her favorite subject, loves curry as her favorite food, and collects fun keychains or straps as a hobby. Before sensha-dō became a mandatory activity at Ōarai, Aya had a particular interest in shinobi-dō, or the way of the ninja, and dreamed of throwing shurikens.

Within the story, Aya is an integral member of Rabbit Team, which consists entirely of first-year students. She takes on the technical role of aiming and firing the M3 Lee's secondary 37mm gun. Her role in the narrative is often to provide comic relief and high-spirited energy, especially during training and the more intense moments of a match. A running gag associated with her character is that her fragile glass glasses break almost every time her tank is knocked out of a match. This begins during the semifinals against Pravda and continues as a recurring motif. Despite the expense of constantly repairing them and suggestions that she switch to a more durable plastic frame, she stubbornly prefers her glass lenses. In the film, after a spectacular break, she is left to witness the victory with cracked lenses, but by the final season, she has learned to carry a spare pair.

Key relationships for Aya are primarily with her teammates. She shares a close bond with the other members of Rabbit Team, considering them a small family, and frequently interacts with her team leader, Azusa Sawa. She also has a strong connection with Yukari Akiyama of Anglerfish Team, often collaborating with her, especially in manga adaptations where she joins Yukari and Erwin aboard a Renault B1bis during the match against Anzio, demonstrating her adaptability as both a driver and main gunner. She gets along well with Saori Takebe, with whom she collaborates to invent the Rabbit Dance as a cheerful counterpart to the famous Ankou Dance.

Notable abilities include her marksmanship and quick reflexes as a gunner, her skill in operating the 37mm cannon, and her proven adaptability in taking on different roles like driving or operating larger guns. Her competence allows her to follow audacious orders from her commanders effectively. Additionally, her proficiency with her smartphone makes her adept at gathering information online, which she applies to her sensha-dō activities. Her development throughout the series shows her growing from an impulsive but enthusiastic novice into a more experienced and reliable tanker, even as she retains the energetic and bright personality that defines her.
