Chuna
Description
Chuna is the former stage name of the Japanese voice actor born Akina on November 2, 1995, in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. She began her career using the name Chuna Cho, under which she first gained public attention as a teenager. Her interest in voice acting was sparked at the age of nine after watching anime with her brother, and she later decided to pursue it professionally following his encouragement. Before formally entering the industry, she competed in the 4th Anisong Grand Prix at the age of fourteen, winning her regional qualification round in Sendai.
Her professional debut came in 2011 when she was cast as Hikaru Nanase in the Xbox 360 game Meikyuu Cross Blood Reloaded after winning a voice actor audition. This success led to her joining the talent agency Sun Music Production in 2012 under the name Chuna. Her first anime role was as a background voice in the series Binbougami ga! later that same year.
Chuna is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Kii Saegusa in the long-running idol franchise Aikatsu!. She voiced the character beginning with the anime's second series, which premiered in October 2013. Kii Saegusa is a student at the rival Dream Academy and is characterized as a genius producer who eventually becomes an idol herself. Chuna also voiced the character in the related video games and films. Another significant early role was Aya Oona in the popular series Girls & Panzer, a character she has voiced across multiple OVAs, films, and video games since 2012.
In June 2013, Chuna formed a vocal unit called Princess Kettsu with fellow voice actors Mariko Nakatsu and Mako Morino, though the group disbanded in July 2014. She left Sun Music Production to become a freelancer in March 2015. A major transition occurred in January 2016 when she joined the agency Stardust Promotion and simultaneously changed her stage name from Chuna to her real name, Akina. Since then, she has continued to build her career under this name.
Among her notable roles post-name change are Kohane Azusawa in the popular mobile game Project SEKAI, Duramente in Uma Musume, and Hitoha Karakuri in Tokyo 7th Sisters. She is also recognized for her singing ability, often performing theme songs and character songs for the projects she is involved in.
