TV-Series
Description
Manatsu Sōda is a student at Hōjō Academy and a supporting character in the story. He is one of the Sōda triplets, along with his sister Mayura and his deceased brother Masumi. Manatsu shares a close physical resemblance to Masumi, with brown hair and brown eyes. His personality is generally cheerful and gentle, but when it comes to his family, he becomes protective and serious, reflecting the same intensity that Masumi once showed. He has a deep affection for horses, especially his first horse, Tabi, which he cared for from a young age.
Manatsu is first introduced when Izumiko begins her life at Hōjō Academy, and he ends up in the same homeroom class as her. Throughout the series, he maintains a friendly and approachable demeanor, often acting as a supportive classmate. His role becomes more significant during the school’s culture festival preparations, when his deep emotional bond with his lost brother Masumi surfaces. After Tabi is euthanized, Manatsu becomes deeply troubled and disappears, sending a message expressing a desire to join Masumi in the spirit world. This event triggers a crisis that draws Izumiko, Mayura, and Miyuki into a supernatural confrontation, ultimately leading to Manatsu’s rescue from a sealed cave on the Sōda family’s land. His ordeal highlights his vulnerability and the lingering pain of his brother’s death, and his recovery becomes a key moment of collective effort among the main characters.
Manatsu possesses no overt supernatural abilities; his significance lies in his familial connections and his role as an ordinary student caught in the story’s spiritual conflicts. His key relationships are with his sister Mayura, with whom he shares a protective and loyal bond, and with the memory of Masumi, which shapes his emotional struggles. He also develops a cordial friendship with Izumiko, providing her with a sense of normalcy and warmth amidst the school’s unusual events. Over the course of the story, Manatsu’s personal growth involves confronting his grief and learning to accept support from others, which ultimately helps him find his footing again.
