Description
Chisa Shinohara is the older sister of the protagonist, Miho Shinohara, in the magical girl anime Fancy Lala. She is depicted as a high school freshman attending Rokunomiya High School, and has black hair and green or brown eyes depending on the source.

Within the family dynamic, Chisa is presented as an "Ace" figure, often praised by those around her for being beautiful, smart, and responsible. Her mother, Mamiko, works as a producer at a television station, and her father, Youichirou, is a paleontologist. Chisa lives in the shadow of these high expectations as much as her younger sister lives in hers; while Miho is frequently shy and overlooked, Chisa garners the bulk of the admiration and recognition from peers and adults alike.

Chisa's role in the story is largely defined by her relationship with her younger sister. While she has moments of being a "Cool Big Sis," she can also be rude and dismissive toward Miho at times, embodying a typical sibling rivalry. However, this tension is rooted in a deeper family dynamic, as Miho sometimes feels overshadowed by Chisa’s accomplishments. There is also a notable childish side to Chisa that contradicts her polished exterior; flashbacks reveal moments of weakness in her childhood, such as wetting the bed and subsequently blaming Miho for the mishap, showing that her perfection is an act rather than an absolute truth.

Despite her seemingly perfect life, Chisa deals with her own social complexities. Her romantic choices confuse her friends, as she dates an unpopular boy, leading her social circle to question what she sees in him. This subplot allows for her character to develop beyond the role of the flawless older sister, showing that she values genuine connection over surface-level popularity. An episode focusing on her perspective provides a "Day in the Limelight," revealing her weaknesses and giving her character greater depth.

Chisa shares a close family bond with her mother, father, younger sister, and her grandparents, Ichirou and Youko. Her primary function in the narrative is to serve as a foil to Miho; while Miho struggles with shyness and seeks confidence through her magical transformation into the idol Lala, Chisa appears to possess that confidence naturally. This contrast highlights Miho’s insecurities and her motivation to become more popular and self-assured. Ultimately, Chisa is portrayed not as an antagonist, but as a realistic depiction of an older sibling who is simultaneously a source of envy, admiration, and occasional annoyance to the main character.
