Description
Cody Balfour is a young officer working for the Ergastulum Police Department, where he serves as the junior partner to the veteran detective Chad Adkins. In terms of appearance, Cody is a handsome man of 26 years, standing at 179cm tall with dark brown hair and light blue eyes. Unlike his superior, who tends to wear his uniform loosely, Cody is meticulous about his appearance and is always dressed in a neat, sharp-fitting black suit.
Cody's personality is defined by a strict adherence to rules and procedure. He is a by-the-book officer who becomes flustered easily, particularly when situations deviate from the regulations he knows so well. This rigid mindset leaves him confused and unable to improvise when faced with unexpected circumstances, making him a stark contrast to more experienced and cynical figures in Ergastulum.
As Chad's junior partner, Cody's role in the story is primarily that of a supporting character within the police force. He is often the one tasked with handling the paperwork and is generally less informed about the city's underworld than his partner. His key relationship is with Chad Adkins, whom he frequently follows with a mix of professional duty and personal surprise at his partner's unconventional choices. Cody often finds himself perplexed by Chad's actions and decisions, especially those concerning the city's underworld figures like the Handymen, Worick Arcangelo and Nicolas Brown, about whom Cody knows very little. His development throughout the narrative is limited, but he consistently represents the perspective of law and order, frequently expressing confusion when the unwritten rules of Ergastulum conflict with official laws, such as when he questions events that seem to violate the city's "three principles".
Cody does not possess any notable superhuman or combat abilities. He is depicted as a regular, unenhanced human being, which is a standard characteristic of a normal police officer in the setting of Ergastulum. His primary function is that of a diligent, if somewhat inexperienced, law enforcer who is still learning to navigate the dangerous and morally grey world he works in.
