Description
Inko Amifumi is a student at Shin-awara High School and a classmate of the protagonist, Inaho Kaizuka. She is also his childhood friend, having known him since they were young because her family runs a restaurant that Inaho and his sister, Yuki, frequently visited. Throughout the series, she serves as a supporting character who is initially a civilian but becomes a soldier in the United Forces of Earth during the Second Earth-Mars War.

Inko possesses a personality that is generally cheerful, agreeable, and straightforward. She is portrayed as a responsible and active member of the student council, often taking the initiative to help organize events. She is also highly competitive and motivated in her studies, consistently ranking at the top of her class and engaging in a friendly rivalry with Inaho for the highest grades. Underneath her confident exterior, she is a caring and sensitive person who places great trust in her friends. However, she can also be prone to jealousy, particularly regarding Inaho's interactions with other girls, which hints at her unspoken romantic feelings for him. Despite his intelligence, Inaho remains largely oblivious to her affection.

Inko's primary motivation throughout the story is to protect her friends and survive the devastating war brought to Earth by the Vers Empire. Her competitive nature drives her to excel as a pilot and prove her worth alongside her comrades. As the conflict escalates and her friends are placed in constant danger, her resolve to fight back against the Martians strengthens, transforming her from a student helping with traffic control into a dedicated soldier fighting on the front lines. She is deeply affected by the loss of her classmate, Okisuke, and is determined to avenge him and prevent further tragedies.

Her role in the story is that of a reliable and capable supporting teammate, primarily to Inaho. In the initial stages of the war, she takes the initiative to drive a military transport vehicle to evacuate civilians and fellow students when the driver is killed, showcasing her ability to act under pressure. As the conflict progresses and she is officially conscripted, she becomes a pilot for the Earth forces. She flies a KG-6 Sleipnir and later a KG-7 Areion, operating as a member of the Mustang Squad under the command of Yuki Kaizuka, with the callsign Mustang 1-1. In this capacity, she participates in numerous key battles, providing fire support and executing the tactical plans devised by Inaho.

Inko's key relationships center on her childhood bond with Inaho and Yuki. She is a part of their close-knit group of friends, which also includes Calm and Nina. Her dynamic with Inaho is the most complex; she respects his tactical genius and relies on him as the leader of their group, while also caring for him on a personal level, which is most evident when she is overcome with emotion after finding him mortally wounded. She shares a close friendship with Nina Klein and a professional, trusting relationship with Yuki. She also shows a notable distrust towards Rayet, initially holding a grudge against her for being Martian, though this animosity fades over time.

Throughout the series, Inko demonstrates notable abilities in several areas. She is academically gifted and a quick learner, which allows her to master piloting and combat skills rapidly. Her most distinctive combat ability is her marksmanship, as she demonstrates a high degree of precision with ranged weapons, such as when she uses a sniper rifle to shoot out a section of a bridge to trap an enemy Kataphrakt. She is also a proficient pilot of both training and military-grade Kataphrakt frames and is skilled in operating other vehicles, including large military transports and gantry cranes. While she may lack the raw genius of Inaho, her disciplined and precise combat style makes her a valuable and effective soldier on the battlefield.

Over the course of the war, Inko undergoes significant development. She begins as a bright, competitive student whose main concern is her class ranking. The sudden onset of war forces her to mature quickly, as she is thrust into life-or-death situations. She evolves from a reluctant participant, driving a transport to escape danger, into a calculated and courageous fighter who willingly enters battle. Her skills as a pilot and soldier improve markedly through experience, and she learns to suppress her fear to focus on the mission. By the series' end, she has fully embraced her role as a soldier, fighting alongside her friends in the final battle and surviving the conflict to witness the new peace.
