TV-Series
Description
Nozomi Moritomo is the main protagonist of the series. She is a normal teenage girl who lives in Tokorozawa, where her family runs the Moritomo Restaurant, a local grilled dumpling shop. As the only daughter of the family, she grows up in an ordinary, down-to-earth environment. She is a new recruit in the vigilante group known as the Hiyoshi Town Propellers. Her childhood nickname is Nonsuke, and her favorite food is melonpan.

Nozomi has a cheerful, optimistic, and hardworking personality. She is described as having average school grades but a notable sense of responsibility. She is not particularly gifted with special powers, belonging to the category of the Rest or mob, the ordinary supporters who back the superhuman fighters called the Best. Despite her lack of extraordinary abilities, she is determined and reliable. She has a strong admiration for her neighbor and childhood friend Masami Utoku, whom she loves like an older sister. Masami is the Best of Hiroshi Town, known under the secret identity of Maccha Green.

Nozomi’s motivation is initially to support Masami in the territorial disputes that define the fractured post-war Japan of the setting. When Masami is seriously injured during a battle with the rival Best Kuniko Shigyou, Nozomi decides to take up Masami’s mission. She sets out on a journey across Japan on her motorcycle, accompanied by three new friends: Yukina Kosaka, a shy girl with no sense of direction; Ai Hibiki, an energetic and hot-headed former gang member; and Chiaya Misono, a quiet and mysterious girl with a connection to aliens and moonlight stones. Together they travel the independent nations of Japan, fulfilling requests meant for Maccha Green and searching for the legendary moonlight stones.

Throughout the story, Nozomi serves as the glue that holds the group together. She drives the team’s motorcycle sidecar, mediates conflicts, and provides a grounding influence for the impulsive Ai and the directionless Yukina. Her role is that of an ordinary person who steps up to face extraordinary challenges. She is characterized by her optimistic perseverance, her empathy, and her willingness to take responsibility for others. Over the course of the series, Nozomi undergoes a journey of self-discovery. She moves from being a girl who feels she can only watch from the sidelines to a leader who realizes that ordinary people can change the world through persistence and heart. She does not possess any superhuman combat abilities, but she becomes a capable fighter and a skilled motorcycle driver through determination and practice. Her stubborn optimism and compassion often inspire those around her, from her traveling companions to the various regional leaders they encounter, such as Kaguya Nayotake in Okayama.

Nozomi’s key relationships include her deep bond with Masami, whom she admires and wishes to support. Within the traveling group, she acts as a stabilizing force for Ai and Yukina, and she forms a close partnership with Chiaya as they all learn to rely on one another. She also has tense but ultimately transformative interactions with the cynical Best Kuniko, whose respect she gradually earns. Nozomi’s development is marked by her growing confidence in her own worth and her ability to lead, despite being a mob in a world dominated by the powerful Bests. Her abilities are not supernatural; they lie in her resilience, her sense of duty, and her talent for bringing people together.
