Description
Yūta Hibiki is a Repli-Compoid, a human-like being created by Akane Shinjo within Tsutsujidai, a simulated city in the Computer World. Unlike other residents, he escaped full binding by Akane's programming, making him eligible as a host partner for Gridman. During an initial clash with the interdimensional entity Alexis Kerib, Gridman shattered into fragments. One fragment possessed Yūta, plunging him into a coma and suppressing his true consciousness. This fragment assumed Yūta's identity, believing itself to be the real person while Yūta's latent personality traits and emotions bled through.
Awakening with apparent amnesia in classmate Rikka Takarada's home, the Gridman-possessed Yūta formed the Gridman Alliance with Rikka and Sho Utsumi. Using the Primal Acceptor hidden beneath a red armband, he performed "Access Flash" transformations to merge with Gridman and combat kaiju threats. This version displayed fierce protective instincts for his friends and the city, consistently prioritizing the mission over his personal safety. His psyche continued influencing the possessing fragment, especially an existing crush on Rikka, which the fragment wholeheartedly adopted.
The truth surfaced when Akane Shinjo stabbed him, inducing another coma. In this state, Yūta learned he wasn't amnesiac but displaced—his real consciousness had lain dormant while the Gridman fragment controlled his body. Following Gridman's departure after Alexis Kerib's defeat, the true Yūta regained control but retained no memories of the two months under possession. This left him socially awkward, particularly around Rikka and Utsumi, as he navigated relationships the fragment had built.
Post-possession, Yūta's real personality emerged: more emotionally expressive, insecure about his lack of combat experience compared to the fragment, and intensely anxious about romantic rejection. Despite these vulnerabilities, he forgave Gridman for the unintended possession, recognizing its necessity. He continued aiding in kaiju battles, demonstrating steadfast heroism and self-sacrificial tendencies.
His romantic feelings for Rikka became central. Repeated attempts to confess were frequently thwarted by crises. Persistent rumors about Rikka dating a university student caused him distress until discovering the individual was her brother. During the multiverse collapse in *Gridman Universe*, Yūta agreed to merge with Gridman again, willingly offering his life to restore balance—an act met with Rikka's fearful frustration. Ultimately, he succeeded in confessing his feelings, establishing a mutual relationship with Rikka by the story's end.
Physically, Yūta possesses cinnabar-red hair with distinctive horn-like protrusions and blue eyes that turned yellow during Gridman merges. He typically wore a white shirt, red tie, dark gray sleeveless sweater, black pants, and uniquely designed sneakers. His armband concealed the essential Primal Acceptor device. Post-possession, his attire simplified, losing the sweater and armband.
Abilities include Mediumship for detecting concealed kaiju-creating Venoras, telepathic communication with Gridman (initially linked to the fragment), and Access Flash merges enabling Gridman's physical manifestation. As a Repli-Compoid freed from programming, he could perceive truths hidden from ordinary residents. His strong willpower later facilitated dimensional breaches for allies during crises.
